Ditto that. Especially since houses have more rooms than bed/ bath.
Perhaps it’s more useful to discuss how different floor plan options can be utilized , improvised, or what to look for when house- shopping, when you do know your needs.

In 2,000 sq ft, having 4 bedrooms might cause at least two of them to be pretty small, so 3 might be better. However, in keeping with what the previous posters said, the number of bedrooms is not the only criteria used for evaluating the desirability of a house, so having people vote on this seems a little pointless. Are you going to build a new house and concerned about resale?

Based on owning a 2,000 sq ft., 3 bedroom 3 bath, I wouldn’t add another two rooms. In my home, the MBR was a decent size but the two other bedrooms were cramped when you had a bed, nightstand and dresser. The laundry was in a hall alcove that only held the washer and dryer and a cupboard overhead, and the living room and area for the dining table was small. I can imagine with a family it would be cramped with dividing the space into 4 bedrooms, 4 baths.

For a house that size two full baths plus a powder room would be okay, but just two would be unacceptable. Regardless of how many bedrooms there are.

Depends on the inhabitants, but for a family, it's nice to have bedroom and bath for the parents and bedroom bath for the kids and a 1/2 bath that guests and everyone can use. But, if no kids, the extra bedroom is great for an office that connects via jack and jill bath to a bedroom....

I guess my home is 'unacceptable,' (as someone above said), but there is nothing I can do, and we've lived here for 31 years, so it has actually been acceptable to us. Our home is almost 2400 square feet on one floor, and we have 4 bedrooms and only 2 baths. Of course, ideally, I would have liked a 1/2 bath too, but nothing is perfect, and it has worked out pretty great for us for a long time. My master bedroom is large, though the bath, at 9' x 9', is not huge, but I love it (tub, separate shower, double vanity). Each of the 2 kids had their own rooms, with the 4th bedroom used as a study/library. Large LR, DR, kitchen, breakfast and family room. The hall bath also has a large shower and long, 9' vanity with 2 sinks and lots of counter space and storage. None of my guests have ever minded using this bathroom while they are here. My point is that houses come in many configurations, and if a home DOESN'T work for your family, you would probably consider moving or choosing another that will. Ours is a tract home built in 1980, and that is just how it was designed...the 2 story homes in the development all have powder rooms on the first floor, so at least 2 1/2 baths, but the one story models had either 4 bds/2 baths or 3 beds/2 1/2 baths. I much prefer my model for many reasons, but when you don't buy brand new, you are limited to what is available at the time.
