Why don't the built-ins next to the fireplace go wall to wall?

Maybe the architect wanted wanted people to see some of the view as they walk up that hallway?

If the drawing accurately reflects where you would have your couches, I would move the window one foot over to towards the fireplace.  I think a lot is dependent on furniture placement.

When determining window placement you need to take into account how it works from both the inside and outside of the house. You need to show the exterior as well as the rest of the floor plan.

On a positive note, doing a furniture layout while designing the house is very wise. The worst thing is to have built a house but have no idea how you will furnish it.

Have your built-ins go wall to wall and center door between the built-ins and the left side of the room. That will make it appear correct :)

FWIW, we have been in our new home over 2 years and I just now realized the electrician and contractor centered my great room chandelier between the fireplace and edge of room instead of the room as a whole. It took me 18 months to realize it and no one else has ever mentioned it. I don't think most people notice things like that unless they are so blatantly "wrong" ;)

I might extend the built-ins to the wall and a 4th window. Center the windows between the front of the cabinets and the opposite wall.

Also note the red lines if centering things is important.

@emilyam819 yeah i have no idea where this furniture arrangement came from but have felt silly asking an architect to rearrange 😂 I guess I should. Those are the size of my couches but the chair is random
