Sorry not understanding the issue but 12" hole no big enough so start there .

What size do you recommend is big enough? I’ve seen many post saying 12x12 is ideal size. Our architect had put that size.

Have you already checked with local codes to see if a laundry chute is permitted in your area? In my area, laundry chutes are no longer permitted due to fire risks.

Yea I have checked and it is approved.

Can I ask you if having it in the middle of an area of the floor as in your photos, will it necessitate you to design your closet storage around what will be a trapdoor type of arrangement in your floor? I am just curious if you will have to give up some storage in your closet to accommodate this.

I would do some type of cabinet over the hole with a door like this. No basket needed. Maybe frame a "chute" to direct the laundry down to the hole. Lots of ways to do this ... this isn't brain surgery!

Yes I’ll have to design around the laundry chute hole.

My ideal would be to have a tilt out hamper but it would be too in the way.

Thinking of a swivel cover like a salt box to the side to avoid taking up vertical space.

I didn't know people still built laundry chutes and am thrilled to hear that they do. Few things are more fun as a kid. A girl at my elementary school hid inside her laundry chute during hide and go seek and firemen had to chop a hole in the wall to get her out. Some stories just stick with you.

I have huge bath towels and they would be a real pain to get down a 12" hole so think about what needs to go down there without getting stuck. We hd a laundry chute when I gre up and it was a lot bigger than 12" so think about what you need for sixe . I find they work best when inside a cabinet door as oppodes to a tilt out that just adds another issue .
