Agree with Hallet. I'd go for a larger shower over a clawfoot tub any day, but if you have room for both then yes, keep the charm. I'd stick to classic Deco motifs like in these bathrooms:

I would do a double vanity - they are so rare in older homes and if it is a hall bath then future owners would likely use it as a kids bath also. I agree with the black and white approach - we redid our sons' bath in our 1920's home last year and stuck with that palette and the result is classic but still fresh and updated.

Do not remuddle the house and put in a double vanity in a secondary bathroom in an old house. Keep the tub and separate shower for resale. In my old 1898 house which I sold in 2010 (when no one was selling homes), it was my bathroom which still had the original tub, shower, tile and sink that sold the house along with the original molding, etc. (The kitchen had been remuddled in the 1960's)

Have you done other updates in this home? Are you keeping the homes original charm? Claw foot tubs are charming but not practical for most use today. If it’s original to the house and the only tub with 3 kids, you probably need a tub. Would 2 kids be using this bath at the same time? Probably not so one sink would suffice. The existing “freestanding” shower wasn’t done back in late 1800’s so that’s probably a update? Can you post some photos of the room/space? I am thinking a “hybrid” version of a bathroom might be nice. Functional, but nodding to the look of the overall home.

Old house lover here as well! I also would also keep tub. We kept the cast iron tub in our kids’ bathroom and they have a single vanity. They shall survive!
