Decor for TV wall

I’m trying to decide what to put on the wall to the right and left of the TV. I think I’m going to put 2 floating shelves on the left. Do you think this round piece of art would look ok to the right? Or is this too many different shapes?

Not artwork. Lower the tv to eye level.

an armoire on one side and a tall bookcase on the other

@Lyn Nielson I have a young son who likes to drag his bean bag chair in that empty corner to the right so I am planning to leave it like that for now

I think matching prints would be nicer visually, with TV lowered and grounded underneath. It’s about proportions and symmetry, .

For those saying the tv is too high, it’s a 65 inch tv and hung 65 inches from the ground. I could lower it but thought was the rule.

I like that Maureen - just not sure where to find prints and what they should be of! I’m not a photograph type person.

it seems like the tv is mounted too high but that could be just that it is a low console with nothing on top of it. I actually prefer my tv just to sit on top of the cosole

(no wall mounting) because then I am stuck with that. it is what it is then. if it's on the cosole I can move the whole thing. what size tv is it? it looks about the right size to me. the suggested heights you posted is the height at the center of the tv which is prpbably eye level when standing. as far as picking prints... look for local sites, places you've been, any interests. nothing needs to match (or it can) does the chest to the left contain toys? games that need to be connected to the tv? if not I would condider moving it to use as an end table for the sectional so it is accessible from the side facing the tv wall. it would just balance out what you are seeing and hide it from view when walking in the room. its also where I would place a dog bed in the room if you needed one. either center the console under the tv or offset it so it looks purposeful and add something taller on that side like in the last houzz photo

I put bookshelves next to mine. Don’t look at the decorator factor as I just put stuff on it to figure it out. Question is, does this look ok and should I keep them? Other pic is of them gone.

I personally vote against them… something about the shape of them doesnt look right with the tv and tv stand

Btw my tv is 65 inches from floor to middle of the tv

Maureen - does it change your opinion if I already have frames hung in this room? They’re on the other side of the room.

The height of the TV in Cheryl’s “Harvard and Highland Model Units” is perfect. The center of the screen should be at about eye level for seated viewers. The center of our 55” TV is about 42” from the floor which works well for us. I would think the center of a 65” TV might mean a couple inches higher. I know viewing preferences vary, but 65” from floor to center for a 65” TV is very high. Based on that, our son’s 85” TV would be problematic for sure.

Something else I’ve found helpful is having the console about 25% wider than the TV.

If you don’t want framed prints or art, I would still aim for a connection and visual balance, no matter what you use.

Shelving: ensure it works well with console, long enough not to feel skimpy, and don’t over accessorize. Note height of tv with shelving and with your tv being so high, when accessorizing items will have to be high as well - I’d ignore the rules. The console is a bit short for the tv, but once you accessorize wall, it will help.

If you prefer the art piece, look for something earthy. A long wall hanging would be a good choice or a round mirror and large clay pottery underneath.

Your art and bean bag would be on the other side.

You may not be a fan of the examples, but hope they give you a sense of how to create a harmonious, balanced wall.
