I'm in the middle of a gut renovation and the staircase is stressing me out - I can't figure out what kind of stain to do on the railing (or wood type, if I have that option).

House is a small bungalow with a slight craftsman vide. Staircase is a small winder tucked between walls, but without doors.

Here is a general idea of the planned layout of the staircase. I plan to have white risers and white spindles, but my floors will be a lighter/natural stained oak.

This is the plan/aim for the floors, and then also for the treads.

What can I do for the newels and railing? Does it have to be oak? I like oak floors but that's pretty much the only place I like it. Can I do a darker railing than the treads? I will have this cherry stain on the island and a bench in the kitchen - could I do a cherry railing with oak treads? Or if I can't do a cherry railing and have to do oak, would it make sense to try and color match this?
