Have you considered painting the headboard…as it is…it sort of dominates the room…style wise and color wise…a pretty pastel or white would work

This will de- emphasize how the headboard overlaps the windows, as well…note that most pictures posted have lighter colored headboards as well

Your room looks pretty darn perfect to me. I’d get another painting or print that fits into the same sized frame. It is a great size and placement is spot on.

If you are looking for discontinued bedsing, try doing a google shopping search for the name of the bedding and the store. Somet Sometimes you can find people in E Bay who are selling it in unopened packaging. I found discontinued Pottery Barn bedding for my mom that way. Brand new.

@Kendrah Thank you! I’m going to replace the comforter first as was suggested and then I’ll look for something a bit larger and with lighter colors that will complement the new comforter (will look for other throw pillows as well!)

I would not paint the headboard but if you want a different look, I would find quilted fabric that coordinates or contrasts with your bedspread. Use this fabric to sew an “envelope” that pops over the headboard. I don’t know if you sew, but I’ve done this several times just to get a different look. Good luck on your project, it’s a very nice room.

@areyano_cs Unfortunately I don’t sew, lol but will keep your suggestion in mind, perhaps down the road when I get tired of looking at it! My sister could help me with that project. Do you happen to have any photos of the headboards you’ve covered? Would love to see how they look, fabulous idea!

Above might work for you, but I am guessing. Which room best displays your goal for this space? Or , you can choose the best features of each space and combine them. You need an overall goal. Otherwise, your results will lesser.

Does not mean you have to implement them all right now. For example, just changing the art and spread would be huge right now.

I also think your room is really nice now. I love the throw pillows you have ( though I might not do the layers). It looks like there are 2 layers of the pillows on top of the shams? I do like the right most and left most.

I guess changing the bedding would work but I don't think it's necessary. I do agree the artwork above the bed is not optimal. I think if you changed that- when you find something you really like - the room will be lovely.

Hi. I have been listening to the various comments you have made. I am understanding you want a more minimalistic design, you have just purchased the bed set and are not likely to want to change it now, you want to keep the lamps.

I addition to that, I think the drapes are a nice quality and, in my opinion, it is not necessary to change them now. Of course all up to you. I don't think you even need to change the spread.

What I recommend, based upon your input is to remove the inside drapes (or move them to the outside (hard to see if they would then be too dense). This will allow for larger art and not feel like the drapes are infringing on the bed.

Here is my beginning vision for your space.

Cost: art, throw, shams. Done.

@CDR the main reason for the draperies as they are of a special thick fabric is to block out the strong south Florida morning sun. Our bedroom faces east and we (and our dogs, lol) enjoy sleeping in on the days we don’t have anything going on. We paid a good amount of money to a local custom draperies company that also came out to install them for us. I love your rendition of new larger wall art minus draperies but we really need to keep the draperies. As it is, even when they’re fully closed the room is never pitch black but at least dark enough to sleep comfortably in the morning.

Yes. The draperies are beautiful. I can see you paid a lot for them. When I am designing for a client, these are all the questions I ask.....I did not realize they were functional, since you have shades as well.

Then, just add art, change the bedding as you want to and leave the drapes.

By chance, there is not another wall to put the bed on? May we see all 4 walls of the room?

@CDR unfortunately since it’s a king sized bed, this is the only wall long enough to accommodate it and our 2 nightstands which we also can’t live without. This is a townhouse we moved into 1 year ago from a large ranch style home so it has been a challenge learning to let go of possessions, living in smaller quarters and basically dealing with our new smaller home issues of finding the right spot for our stuff and being very organized with closets and drawers There are pros and cons but overall it was the right time to move as it is just my husband and I. The kids are grown, married and moved to their own homes with their kiddos.

Makes sense. in my opinion, based upon all you gave posted, the space does not need much. New art and updated bedding. i would eliminate the front pillows and replace with simple sage shams. perhaps you could store some of the functional pillows during the day.

Lovely and inviting room, I like everything about it. Your lamps are fabulous and pillows so charming.

I’d find art you love the size of your current one … not larger … and a comforter, duvet, or quilt to fold down at the end of your bed.

Re: art … what are your interests? What are some examples of art you have in other rooms? Take your time looking, don’t replace a generic one with another generic one. Find something you really love looking at every day — it doesn’t have to match anything.

Doing that will personalize your room so much more.

I look on Etsy, on artist websites, at boutiques and art festivals, at antique stores, at museums, on Ebay, and on and on.

But again, I would not go much larger. Too overpowering and bossy with everything else in the space and not a good balance with your windows and headboard.

Great advice @Jilly. I want a new comforter thinking of sage as I find it soothing and ties in with both the live plants on nightstands and the hand painted floral design on the antique lamps. I would love to add a chunky knit fold down as I used in my guest room/granddaughter’s room (when she comes for sleepovers)As for the art there are a lot of directions we could go with that, it’s not going to be easy as I seem to love a lot of different styles. I do love West Elm so will check there as well, you chose very well! Perhaps not pink though for the throw, if I choose sage for quilt then beige might be better.

This is why, as a first step, I always recommend collecting photos in an ideabook. None of the photos would be the exact depiction of what your room would be, but after collecting, hone in on a few that really speak to you.

This brings both ideas and clarity to your process.

By the way, since the plants take up a good deal of space on the nightstands, could you use different night stands and add plants elsewhere? Back to maybe rearranging the room.

@CDR the nightstands also provide good storage for clothes to the point that we even cancelled a tall dresser which would have fit in a corner but not having it there makes this small room look larger. We also had a company install shelving and drawers in our tiny walk in closet, that was some of the best spent money in terms of organization, and increasing space

If it were my space, I would not put anything above the bed. It's a smaller space, and you have a lot going on with the window treatments and headboard. Not a professional, but I'd concentrate on creating a luxurious bed with various fabrics.
