What was there to begin with was so much better than what is there now. I think a solid front door since you have so much glass on the sides. The door/window manufacturer should have a couple options for obscured glass. Something reeded maybe? The examples I have are red, but there are other MCM colors that would be appropriate. Since your house is white you really have a lot of options.

I like your pics…just worry about a coloured door and the fading that would happen since it is unprotected and south facing?

anything facing south is going to need maintenance. Wood would be a nightmare since every 2 years you would have to varnish it.

A factory painted fiberglass or a steel door will prob hold up a bit better. And if you have to paint it every 5 years, not a big deal. Some colors fade less than others. Red is prob the fastest fader. blues or greens might be a bit better. yellows too. You would use a specialty paint that has special UV blockers. that is going to give you the best protection.

the other alternative? white. is this really what you want?

Get a factory finished powder coated steel door I live in Canada had colored steel dors in Calgary not problem facing south . One of mine was teal. I love the first pic I was thinking nothing to change and then you post the Victorian door no,no, no. I really do not think oyu need privacy with thetransom but probly heat and UV control which you can have with solar shades .I do not think a white door works at all.Since you like MCM this is my fave inspiration for landscping Check out the gray with the white windows and lime door , Awesome

Love the pics everyone is sending with beautiful coloured doors. Any magazine pic I see with a nice bold coloured door, shows the door being protected from the elements. I am in my mid 60’s…hope to stay in my house for awhile yet, but don’t want to have to redo the door or entrance again after this next time. Help me to figure out what do do.
If I was going with a paler colour that would last longer without fading, what would everyone suggest that would work with the house. I am not redoing any window frames, so the entrance framing would remain white, but put a colour on the door?
Is there a MCM light green colour that would work and that would go with the roofing. I have to change the roofing next year or the following but would most likely go a similar green again?
I do need some privacy in the windows and the doors as they see through a walkway where the transom is from the bedrooms to the living and kitchen areas, and the sidelights show that same area and the family room downstairs.
I am really trying to get this right for myself, and for the next person wishing to own my home. As you all know, this is quite costly so really appreciate all your help to figure it all out.

doesn't matter what you use, it will require upkeep.

get a good paint that is MEANT for exterior doors and it should last a bit longer. Glossy finish is also a better choice than a satin.

Are you getting new doors? that's a must. those faux victorian doors just do not work.

So, find the door first, and then you can pick a color.

that bright Chartreuse door example, does not work on your style home w/this stone (and certainly not w/your current door)

If the stucco is staying the same, and you're getting a charcoal/gray color roof,

then just use one of the colors in the stone for the front door. It doesn't have to be 'green'. In fact, green, unless its a darker forest green/gray tone, wouldn't really work, even w/that roof.

Since you want lighter colors, try one of these. The Breathless color or Software would be pretty

maybe either succulent or Forever Green

But with the way it is now, a bold color like orange/chartreuse or red, just won't work
