Brandon, I can't imagine why anyone who has seen your incredibly gorgeous garden on You.tube would ever pose that question. For me, who loves the antique varieties best, I would say not only their charm and beauty but also their mystique and history, which in some cases for the Chinese roses may go back a thousand years. I'm privileged to have in my garden roses that have graced gardens and been loved for hundreds of years, and to me that's an immense privilege and pleasure. At the same time there are many modern roses that are exquisite and I value them too.

The romantic spirit. Nothing like it - and by that I don't mean cheesy standardized V Day thoughts. I mean the passion and naturalism of the 19th century Romantic Movement.

Roses capture nature's perfect beauty like nothing else.

I don't have a 1912 cottage with a garden and antique roses. I have antique roses and a period correct house and garden to serve the roses. :-) Carol

A few of my grandmother's roses--photos circa 1950s. Like others on the forum, my family members planted roses long before I was born, and my appreciation for roses grew in their gardens.
