What? you didn't like the laminate? :) what are you going to paint? what are you thinking of for backsplash? I found it was the hardest choice.

Choosing a backsplash has been the most difficult task by far! If nothing else, I'll probably go with a white subway tile, but I'd rather find something with a bit more style. Looking at soft greens and blues for paint. Still deciding which.

Here are a couple of tiles you may (or may not) like, along with a curved tracklight (so you can choose where to send light)and a light filtering roman shade (which you can purchase (or make) to suit your tastes; to help you finish your space :-)

IMO, if you're going to tile the backsplash, stick with something "neutral". No trendy tile look that will become "dated" in a few years. Who wants to hear "Oh, you did your kitchen back in 2013 (when narrow glass tile was popular). A good rule of thumb is that you can always swap out paint colors, seat cushion, pillows, curtain/window blind colors and that type of thing, in years to come.. It's a far larger (and more expensive) project to rip out and replace tile that has become dated.

So much better - great job.

In the meantime, if you can't' decide on a backsplash color, paint the backsplash some bold color that you love! You can always paint over it or tile over it later. Paint is an inexpensive way to learn what you like and what you don't.

BTW, love the contrast between the maple cabinets and the dark wood floor.

Stamps, I like the look of he tinted glass tile but is it a look to span the years? As Jean stated, I don't want I to choose something too trendy. Nice though!

I'd defer the back splash decision for now and replace your range - it is the only leftover from your old kitchen. You'll enjoy a new range now and have time to thoughtfully decide what color / style / material / design you want for the back splash. Nice job, it looks WAY better!

B&C don't come to my house :) I have rice jars! you would faint!
Jelaine, I think the white subway would look really nice and blend in with the adjoining room, but I do like what STamps suggested too. something subtle. Then for color you can bring in towels and other moveable things but don't tell B&C :)

LOL ... My wife is a national award winning ASID Designer and has always told me that's why we spend the big bucks on Cabinets (to put things in) there is nothing charming about Coffee Pots, Blenders, Toasters, and geegaws, I'll have to take her word for it after all she's been right for over 40 years and has the credentials to prove it to me ...... LOL .. to each his own right !!!

If we would have had the big bucks :) we would have had more cabinets installed for the above mentioned jars and other stuff. I can't stand clutter actually, I was just teasing you. The jars are in a place that the counter can't be used, so they're not taking up real estate. Blender is in a cabinet, don't use a coffee pot (we have those goofy French ones) and geegaws? eeewww :) no roosters either!!!! The trouble in this house is that I am the only person who puts things away so it gets tiring :)

Once my lottery numbers hit I'll paint, tile, replace the range and add a custom 'geegaw' cabinet. Until then, this will have to do. ;-)

Bare countertops are a "must" for some; but if that is not for you, then it isn't! As long as your kitchen functions well and you like it.... then it is perfect as it is!

I personally like when a kitchen looks lived in as long as your counters are wiped clean there is nothing wrong with having things on the counters:)

Good Morning, looks like I'm getting picked on, (lol) whatever makes your boat float is fine with me, If you like that look then go with Cabinets that have glass doors, I'm a contractor (retired) and I know things changed. Architectural Digest was always the go to source in my time and they wouldn't be caught dead featuring pictures of messy Kitchens, Closets, etc, maybe today its the in thing and if so ,I stand corrected :>} Love to all and have a great week end.

I think you've done a good job so far. So sorry for the firestorm when Houzz posted this on Facebook. My three year old oak cabinets are quite similar (even the drawer/cabinet pulls). You will LOVE having huge drawers for things! I'm still deciding on backsplash, too, but don't really need one at my sink as it is on a peninsula. Stamps Design made some good suggestions. And, frankly, I love my fifteen year old stove and don't cook that much any way so change your stove out when you're ready! Maybe I'll post pictures when I get the last touches done, I hope, by Christmas!

@ scbarb_70 If your landlord will allow you to paint then, you are limited only by your budget and imagination!Sometimes adding new accessories, artwork or giving furniture a coat of paint really brightens up a space (and you get to take it with you when you move!)
