I have been working on my open concept living room for almost a year now. Interviewed several designers, hellish experience! I trust my taste, but no spatial vision! So afraid to make a mistake, so keep putting it off! House is over 20 years old and so badly needs it!

I have been planning to try rue figuring perhaps the bedroom wall adjoining the LR and incorporate more closet space in my closet poor BR. It needs that and a total paint job, window I coverings or at least new shades, bedroom furniture replaced with that in a spare bedroom and so much more!!

My condo loft den! "Limbo" has me procrastinating with some great projects I have in mind.
I live in a restored historical building (two smaller condos below, and upscale ladies and mens wear shops on the ground floor) The first thing people (and me, every day!!) gasp at, is the original brick wall where you can look out of and onto the main street of town. (small town). That ceiling slopes up to about 15, 16 ft.? (not quite sure; can't hold a measuring device up that far) The condo is 2300 sq ft. The roof is being replaced very soon. Because of that, my den ceiling will be replaced (might have mould) and my skylight reinstalled. I know, risky business if it's not sealed properly. The carpet will be cleaned and the ceiling/room will be painted...all within budget of our condo management reserve fund. I can sit back and have my "fresh" pallet begging for touches of my wants... I'm so excited!!!

Oh geez I guess i should show the den. I avoid taking photos of it! and quickly found "part den" from two years ago. lol.

So all these photos were a while ago; the dining wall area is not that mismatch (I only just moved in at this point) and the den has no rhyme... BUT reason!... a must have room with major issues! I'm an equestrian&equine photojournalist and yeah this was a special event with pony rides, right on the street as I look out my brick wall windows.

J.B., Have you considered a "solar tube" for your natural lighting instead of a "skylight'? We have a couple of them and really do like them. I am amazed at the amount of light entering our laundry room that has no windows. I keep wanting to turn the light off as I leave. It is a smaller perforation in your roof and we have had no problems, SO FAR, with water intrusion. I do not know exactly how they work, but they work! We also have one in the stairwell.

If I wait long enough, my turquoise marbled formica vanity top *might* become vintage and stylish. OTOH, I don't like it, never have and have lived with it for 25 years.

The office! I know it will be hard to convince my husband to discard his "treasures" and that he doesn't need to keep every copy of Consumer Reports! :)

My laundry room is awkward, has a really cheap plastic utility sink in it, and also includes a half bath for the lower level of our house, a split level. We are redoing most of the lower level, and started with new windows. I would like to gut the room, steal some space from an adjacent closet, and add a shower. Since it is essentially a walkout basement, and therefore on a slab, my husband does not want to add the shower, nor does he want to reconfigure the closet space.We plan to redo all the lower level floors next, which will definitely force us to do SOMETHING to the laundry room.

momoruth - my guest room had turned into a giant storage/walk-in closet. This has been my first major project I have been working on seriously for a year. When I started I barely had an L-shaped pathway. I am down to 2 metal shelving units, a desk, a folding table, folding drawing board, a 4-drawer file cabinet, and 3 boxes of "stuff." The room looks virtually empty compared to when I started.

I have finally finished "converting" my file folders into stacking plastic boxes thanks to ideas from the pilers filers thread! Now I can get rid of the dreaded 4-drawer file cabinet. Will post a pic of that on the filer vs piled thread next week :)

But now the procrastination is finishing the last little bit and painting and putting in new flooring (tore out the old yucky carpeting). I HAD planned to have this room completed by then end of June.

Guest room that spends most of the year as an office but also needs to be offspring welcoming. Still working on a solution for a comfortable bed that can be folded up/stashed out of the way.

Master Bathroom that is waiting for me to finish the other bathroom in the house. Making decisions about tile, colors and what can stay or needs to be replaced.

My living room has been my constant "I will, I hope, maybe I can" room for years. It's an open layout and although I've started with some furniture, I need to replace the floor, paint the walls and figure out what to do with the fireplace to make it standout. Do I change the blinds on the windows and go for drapes? Or just replace the valances? What about the walls? What color do I want? Should I do an accent wall? Decisions! In those famous words, "I can't think about that today. If I do I'll go crazy. I'll think about it tomorrow."

Since we bought our house, the "office" has been pretty much storage. We've got our laptops in the living room (me) and the dining room table (my partner) and probably will be this way for a long time. In fact, I was thinking of ditching the office concept in favour of a meditation room.

I have LOTS of things to deal with here. In the laboratory /medical field it's called "TNT" or "too numerous to count". I also have more to do than I have time, money or patience. That's clearly an issue here. There's definately a dispportionate number of "LINE ITEMS" than the number with dollar sign in the "Balance Line" of my checkbook. Those two sheets, no matter how I spread them, ever line up. There's SO much planning and revamping because my first idea fell through...there's the domino effect that one action begets another..that I simply fall into "ANALYSIS PARALYSIS". I've tried "jumping in with both feet..that leap of faith, trusting my instincts"...that whole GUT thing. Maybe thats why my bathroom has been in disarray all summer. I am finally on someone's schedule to get this done in 2 weeks!!! Right or wrong..we will see. Then the kitchen is next. Already thinking it through!
It's always said, if you need help, get it. I believe that saying is intended for "counseling". Better to get help now as a pre-emptive strike against the need for counseling if I don't. How great would it be to have someone who can see things more clearly and take action.?I do believe I will do that with my kitchen.

Bsellers1394 you sound like you're living at my place! Where do I start? Where do I begin? O.K. I've got to start with a budget. See! You can do this! Ok, what exactly do you want? Wait, which room should I really do first? The cheaper or the one with the most problems? Ahhh!! It was going so well! I had a budget figured out! Well, sort of. I mean if I go with the room with more problems the budget might not be enough so.... Help!!!!

What room do you use the most that you simply can't deal with anymore? Luckily, I think I have an advantage by NOT having open concept. I can deal with one room at a time but that's also food for procrastination. If I had open, it would be one big huge mess but then its over and done.

I probably should have done kitchen first. They are both sooo bad. Actually, my "idea" of what the budget would be got totally turned upside down. Its twice the amount, at least!
I later found by researching websites what average cost was given location being rural or small town or big city against plain but nice update or fancy schmancy. I guess I'm hitting it about right, unfortunately. My "idea" of a budget was a joke, I suppose.

I WILL find a way to get this paid. I always do. I can count on me to do that. I know myself that way. What I can not count on me for is to actually DO the work. I am older too early and not in super health. I know I HAVE to get this done while I AM still able. In a few years, I may not be able to even do this. I am doing these projects to be long term. I do not EVER intend to do bathroom again. It will be classic, age appropriate for the house and will not go out of style( I hope). At least I tried. IT'S SCARY THOUGH, the people you have to turn control over to and the money...gosh.I keep telling myself it will all be worth it!

I did have a designer come in to give me her opinion on the things that I had trouble deciding on. One hour consult helped get me off the rope! Try that! Have a designer come help you decide where your priorites really are and how to best achieve your goals.

4th bedroom is the "JUNK" room. 20 years ago, when the kids were teens, someone had the bright idea
to write on the walls, and paint on them. We have the entire lyrics of "yellow submarine". The whole room
is covered and Tagged. Would that I could get off my fanny and clean it up. However, I would be erasing such memories.

I moved in to my house 5 yrs ago It was brand i have really high ceiling and have been procrastiating to paint cause I'm so scared I won't like the color and have to have it redone I would also like hardwood floors and ace cents to make my living room homey and cozy so we can use it currently so blahhhh original white paint

Personally, we do tons of work for clients but our office can get a liiiiiittle too cluttered at times. Must. Not. Procrastinate! =P

Bought this house April 2008 completely gutted and rebuilt it in 3 months. Including a 12 ft by 26 ft addition. Since then, sadly, my laundry room sits in limbo.

Would like to re-paint the office!

Need a more interesting rug for the living room.....

henryshorse, love your sentiment on painting over those memories. Suggest you take some good quality photos of sections of the walls. You can frame prints of them to hang on your newly painted walks.

I am so NOT a procrastinator and luckily I have a husband willing to paint and help with projects.

He just painted our bedroom but I don't like the color, so repainting it will have to happen.

We do have a few projects that need to be done, but only thing holding us up, is spreading out the expense.

We are having our foundation plantings ripped out and replaced as they are over 30 years old.

We enjoy our home, so maintaining and improving it, is important to us, so we get the job done.

Most of the projects take much less time than all the mental pressure of having a long "to do" list.

Darn autocorrect...or more accurately, auto mess up. That was supposed to say "hang on your newly painted walls" not walks. About those treasures left behind, do the same thing. Pick one absolute favorite treasure from each, then take pics of the rest. If they are something a homeless child would be thrilled with then donate, otherwise toss.

The bedroom is so dark for two reasons. First, there is only one window and it's not that big. Second, three of the four walls are a dark wood and not just regular wood paneling from the 60s. It looks like walnut, but it's so dark, and my husband is a firm believer in not painting real wood. I'm totally stumped on it, but since guests don't venture upstairs to our room I don't see a point in changing anything right away. And it's a good thing I procrastinated because we just bought a house and it'd be hard to sell this one while in the midst of a reno.

We completed the family room portion of an addition but can't seem to finish the project. Tired of saying that it will someday become our new kitchen.

My bathroom! Toilet is sinking and shower is leaking! I get lost in all the beautiful tile choices.

I can't decide which room suffers the most from my procrastination. I don't want to make a mistake of choosing wrong so I am going to add this decision to my projects list and make a good choice later.

I have been wanting to update my bathroom for 8 years!!! I have had the tile flooring, new cabinet, sink, faucet, over the toilet shelf and new decor for over a year!!! But because now both my husband and I are doing with injuries we are unable to get it done and it is driving me nuts!!!! My next project I want to do if my kitchen cupboards and the reason I haven't started those is one because of money and two I'm scared...lol....someday it will all get done. Right??

I want to update my kitchen by refinishing the cabinets, changing the counter top, adding a backsplash and laying a new floor. My biggest problem is just when I think I've decided on everything, I see something else or another colour I like.

I'd like my office to be neat and tidy with everything nicely stored.... I just never get around to organizing it!

I want my living area furniture to fit the room. I want new furniture. I Need help with placing the right kind of furniture.It all open space , a condo.

For the past 5 years, I've intended to turn a guest room into a workroom. It's such a hoarder's paradise now, every time I walk in there I get overwhelmed and walk right out again. (the rest of the house is clean and tidy - just that one confounding room is the bane of my existence!)

Definitely the bedroom it is the same original yellow color, which makes it look...well...old.

we are 2 years into a main bath remodel in our 1959 house. have the tile just afraid to start. my husband painted, changed flooring, removed shower and chipped tub when he removed glass enclosure. he decided to make the vanity and another cabinet unit that is without doors or countertop. he has good intentions but he always bites off more than he can chew. gotta love him. he has single handedly built or rebuilt most of our house. luckily we have a shower in the basement to use. it also took over 2 year to finish because of the tile. new shower curtain, towels and rug is waiting in my bedroom in boxes. hopefully I still like them when its done.

Since building my house, I have yet to organize the gym

When I get home, I'm too tiered to work in it.
