Awkward over hang

Any ideas on what to do under this awkward over hang? I though maybe corbels but wasn’t sure that would look right either..

Also, the over hang is large than it looks in the photo. It is 2 feet.

Can you post a picture of the entire room. Looks like a very bad spot for a couch. A nice cabinet would look much better under that overhang. Its hard to say, without seeing the entire room.

Picture of the entire room. Unfortunately we’re pretty limited on furniture configuration 😩

Definately do not want crobels to accent it. Treat it like any other wall. If you post a floor plan maybe there is a better layout for the room. This may be a better place for the TV with sofa across from it and two chairs flanking the fireplace instead.

Darn. I’m wondering if maybe I should just leave it alone. Unfortunately the tv can be moved as it’s an elaborate AV setup with wires through the fireplace. It would also end up being a strange spot for a tv with the floor plan of the rest of the house, this room opens to our kitchen. I’m stumped on how to make it look less awkward.

I also considered having recessed lighting put under the over hang, with a gallery wall to make it look more intentional but on the fence about that.

Are both those couches needed? It would look better to not have that couch out into where the room entry is, or can you at least turn the couch on to the wall, with the overhang, so it isnt right in the walkway? Oh, and I also agree, no corbels under that overhang.

This is one of those things that only you notice. The overhang clearly has a purpose.

If the sofa wasn't there you could possible create a built- in. But with else going on, it would just create clutter.

The problem is your furniture layout, not the overhang Post a floor plan of the house layout

cpartist is right. The furniture layout for this room doesn't work .

The area under the overhang is perfect for the position of the large screen TV

However, art and adding lighting will help the wall in question as one option.

Thank you so much for the visuals. Extremely helpful. I’m thinking I will have an electrician come out and install can lighting and will be on the look out for art. Maybe move things around when we replace furniture. Thanks again!!

You can try the layout with your existing furnishings. This location for the TV allows you to purchase a much larger screen for the large room.

Is it possible to change the entrance to this area to be along the wall in discussion. I see a railing on both sides with an opening in the middle. Can this be redone to put the railing to the right only and make the entrance on the left so that your sofa can enter the seating area. It may involve squaring off the landing as I see it is angled on the right but this may help make the area flow better by changing the traffic patterns.
