We have an LG . Its fine, as has been every dryer we’ve owned. I actually appreciate the steam feature. The appliance salesperson encouraged me to try it when I scoffed at the notion of it during his sales pitch. Once it was delivered I tried it out of curiosity and now I use it regularly. It wouldn't be a deal breaker for future purchases, but I like it!

A simple web search with any popular search engine would reveal the truth about the LG brand. Or... a few moments, searching on this site.

The truth is... LG & Samsung, are Korean Garbage Appliances. If you want reliability, get another brand. You should also ask yourself, why a brand would go so far out of its way to Astroturf reviews online.

My GE Dryer (Electric) from 2014 is still going well. As is my Miele Dryer (Electric) from 2006. I also have several sets of Gas Kenmore & Whirlpool dryers from 2000-2004, all still going well, in my rental properties. One of them, the keyword here -- is One, required a new belt.

Here's another comment from a very satisfied LG owner. Yes, Laundry Mich, I'm a real person, though I wouldn't necessarily have felt sny need to chime in if I hadn't seen your comment.) I think we've had it at least 10 years. Replaced the belt (thanks YouTube) and had a very aggravating issue with the filter poking up from it's slot and catching on our clothes. Finally realized that was due to a buildup of lint down below the filter. That's definitely a design flaw, but now remedied by more aggressively cleaning that space. I'm glad we figured that out because I really LIKE the dryer and didn't want to have to replace it.

Another happy LG owner. Had them in our last home and also here. The Top 14 recommended gas dryers on ConsumerReports are LG. First other brand listed is Kenmore, then Samsung followed by more LGs.

I might have been a tad suspicious about the posts for LG but I do recognize most of the poster names on this thread. I also was looking for a washer and dryer 4 years ago and I recall that LG had good ratings. Samsung was the one to avoid.

I went with Whirlpool ( but I have electric dryer).

I'm a "real" person and I too have an LG, electric dryer. It's a newer one, the washer has the glass see through top. It's been in a rental for 5 years. I also have Whirlpool, Maytag, Samsung and Sears Elite. My two gas dryers are Samsung & Maytag. I have two Maytag dryers. If I compare the gas to the electric, they dry in the same amount of time...but gas "used-to-be" cheaper to operate.

I have a 10-12 year old maytag. I wouldn't necessarily recommend it, but it's worked well. I can't say the same for the matching front loading washer (I have dreams of gleefully throwing it over a cliff). What I did want to add is that the Maytag dryer has steam and I honestly thought I would never use it (before this, I would do as suggested above and throw a damp towel in), however I actually love it. I'm still a working girl and I find it really convenient to throw slightly wrinkled items in for 10-15 minutes and have them come out refreshed. It is a gentler touch than throwing in a damp towel and is just more convenient.

I have always had gas dryers. I don't have the static issues that I've noticed on the electric dryers I use when I babysit my grandchildren. So I will always stay with gas. They are a little more expensive, and usually they aren't in stock, so there is a little wait to get one.

The one I have now is a Bosch that came with my Nexxt washer which bit the dust after 15 years. I hate it because it rolls sheets and other large items into balls.

I replaced my Bosch washer last year with a LG washer and I like it. I think it washes well and the rinses I think are better than my old Bosch. It also runs a lot smoother than my old Bosch.

My one complaint is that I can't get as hot temps as I got on my Bosch which gave me 170 on a sanitary wash. All the temps on all brands sold in the U.S. are dumbed down now, unless you go with a Miele or Bosch.

To the person up-thread, my year old LG washer does not have a water hammer issue.

My daughter has a 5 year old LG washer and she has had no problems. Her machine gets much heavier usage than mine because she has two children and a husband in Soccer and swimming. Plus, LOL, she is not nearly as careful with how she uses it as I am.

Gas dryer vs. electric dryer ... it's generally not an arbitrary decision. One must buy a dryer that fits to the utilities at the location of the machine's installation. Majority of homes either allow for a gas dryer (120v power and a natural gas or propane supply present) or an electric dryer (240v power and no gas supply present) ... although there are situations that provide both 240v power and a gas supply for a choice of either type of dryer.

Regards to this brand vs. that, all brands have various manufacturing facilities spread globally and source components globally. A given brand may have company ties of which the typical consumer may be unaware unless he pays attention to the industry. GE appliances division is owned by Haier (a Chinese company) since 2016. Samsung and LG have manufacturing plants in the U.S. (My nephew's wife and her dad work at a Samsung facilitiy in Austin TX area, although it produces electronic components, not appliances. A new facility is under construction to which she is to transfer.) Whirlpool bought Maytag in 2006, which includes Amana and several other brands. Frigidaire, once owned by General Motors, belongs to Electrolux of Sweden since 1986.

My brother was in the same situation three months ago and did a ton of research. He ended up with an LG dryer and loves it. He's hanging on to his old washer that have never seen a repair person. But when it goes, he will get an LG washer.

I purchased stacked units last week. After much research, I went with LG. Their reviews are good across a number of different sources. Make sure you look at Yale Appliances Learning Center. It is a store out of Boston that has great reviews and videos. They really test appliances and also give stats on which brands their repair center gets the most calls on.

I love our Fisher Paykel washer and dryer! They are electric.

When our washer broke, we had to quickly buy a new set. Went with GE -- they're ok. One thing I wish was different - they have large knobs to turn and with showing my age and less flexibility in my hands, I find them difficult to turn. Maybe it's good exercise though LOL. Also, gas dryers very common here and that's what we have.

Fisher & Paykel for the past several years offers only one washer and dryer pair on the U.S. market ... a frontload washer and (currently) an electric condensor dryer. Haier owns F&P since 2012.

We had natural gas at our previous homes and gas dryers - natural gas is not available here (and I did not want propane) so electric dryer it is - tomato tomahto just depends on where you live and your house.

My research is not as current as you might like but it did come from the laundry forum here and at that time (could be different now) Electrolux was highly recommended - probably more for the washer than dryer but the dryer was highly touted, too. I have the steam option - never use it. Easily 99.5% of my drying is done on a timer with either the low, med low or med heat setting with the extended tumble wrinkle release option. All the bells and whistles sit unused. Drying is so much less complicated than washing that if I were in the market at this time, I'd go for simplicity and large capacity - even though I dry bedding outdoors whenever possible it's still nice to be able to dry a king mattress pad or comforter inside when weather does not cooperate.

@dadoes I wasn't aware of that. I was thinking our washer and dryer are less than 10 years old, but maybe not. Our washer is top load so must be a different set. I hate to hear that! I love our set!!

I love my LG washer and dryer. We have had them for several years. They work great, no issues. I purchased an LG dishwasher, TV and portable air conditioner. They all function great, no issues.

Just remembered, We have a top-loading dryer, by Fisher Paykel, in our basement at home. Very unusual I think. Works great. I can't recall the details but IIRC my repair guy could not figure out what was wrong with my dryer and gave me his FP in trade --- I forget why.

I had an electric Samsung dryer in my last house. It had all the bells and whistles. Had the repair guy there fixing 2x in 5 years. First time under warranty. Second time on my dime. Right before we sold the house, it started acting up again. Repair guy wouldn't even come to look,

In my house here in CA, I have Whirlpool gas dryer. Just a basic large capacity dryer made in America. I like it and haven't had a problem for 6 years.

I've posted here, in kitchens, laundry and occasionally in other forums for over a decade, including discussion of my Never-Again-Buying-Whirlpool experience with my Calypso washer and dryer, my first LG front loader set (from hesitancy to make the switch to loving the front loaders and then to my second set that helped wash boy scout camping gear, marching band uniforms and choir dresses, making easy work of them in large batches, as well as king size comforters, especially loving the new dryer that is large enough to fluff and dry without taking the comforter out and repositioning several times. I also have the steam feature and like it, but I bought the one I did for that XL capacity (and the brand) even though it is just DH and me most of the time now. With DS being a music teacher, I cleaned all the choir and orchestra dresses for them at the end of last year, saved each group hundreds of dollars in cleaning charges and it was easy. My sister and a friend also bought LG on my recommendation and love them. My utility room fridge is an LG and we and both my sons have at least one LG TV (I think we have 2). I like dependable brands that make my life (and others') easy. That's as real as it gets.

Dedtired, the steam washer used water from the same tap as is used for cleaning. The dryer has a little pull out drawer similar to the one that is used for detergent in the washer, but you fill it with tap water. It's a small water tank you can take to the faucet or pour into.

mtnrdredux_gw, F&P's topload dryer was discontinued more than 10 years ago. I have a 2004 model and a 2010 model in use, and a couple spares.

Dryers with steam either connect to a cold water supply (typically sharing the adjacent washer's tap via a Y-splitter) ... or as lascatx references, some have a water reservoir/drawer that's filled manually as-needed.

Another happy LG washer and dryer user here. We’ve had our pair for about 5-6 years. Yes, the dryer has a bunch of special features and I have at least tried them all. It’s electric and all my previous appliances have been electric. The washer is a top load and I love how I can wash and dry large quilts and comforters when needed.

I previously had a workhorse Maytag dryer and a POS Westinghouse front loader. We won’t discuss the awfulness of the washer. When we purchased our lake condo we bought an inexpensive GE pair because we mostly do just sheets and towels there. They work great too.

Gas dryers aren't common here, I know no one who has one including myself and we do have natural gas heat. Also an only occasionally used gas fireplace ;)

I've only had Maytag dryers in my lifetime. I've had no complaints. With a basic dryer, having only a couple bells and whistle not a full range of those I would never use, most dryers are pretty basically reliable. They either dry your clothes, or do not with few parts to go wrong.

I was alarmed when a newly wed nephew and his bride bought an LG laundry pair. With very little conversation with us of those older....like no discussion at all. My service person was here for a problem of a different type, and I'd asked him.

He said somehow, when he hadn't expected to recommend many overseas products, he felt LG had actually gotten the energy efficient washers and dryers right compared to some of the old standbys we'd been more used to. They were a sound choice And they've proved to be that. A few years and two babies later, niece in law is still happy with her laundry equipment.

Anyway, I don't know that the store I mentioned will be the cheapest as they aren't volume retailers. I mentioned them only because I was impressed with their delivery/installation team.

We had the same issue with our Kenmore dryer - ruined quite a few items of clothing before we figured out what was going on.

We just had to replace the matching Kenmore front load washing machine (they were both over 17 years old), and bought an LG front load washer that was highly rated on CR and the top pick on Wirecutter.

terezosa, keep in mind that Sears doesn't itself manufacture anything. Kenmore appliances are sourced from the various other brands. The leading digits before the period on Kenmore model numbers (the full number from the tag on the appliance, syntax of xxx.xxxxxxxxxx) is a code for the manufacturer. Whirlpool was the primary supplier of Kenmore laundry products from the 1950s into the 2000s, then Sears began sourcing some models from other makers.

Another LG washer lover here. Had an Electrolux that was 5 years old in pristine condition and worked but had them haul it away when they delivered my LG washer. The electrolux washer caused stink to build up on our clothing. Sheets and towels were fine. Tried everything and just got fed up. But I kept the matching dryer which is electric and does fine. It has all the bells and whistles that I never use. It has steam. Don't use it. It's around 10 years old. We replaced the heating element once on our own. Once it dies i am getting a simple no frills dryer. I really only use the timed drying with low, medium or high heat.

@Trapped, One thing I wanted to say to you personally, is I am extremely doubtful that a newer washer rinses in anyway better than a older one.

The Department of Energy requirements, are so utterly ridiculous at this point, that I noticed that almost no brand's front loader (Incl. Bosch, GE, Whirlpool, Samsung, LG, Electrolux) does a amble job of rinsing out detergent. What compounds the issue worse, is the use of All-in-One detergents, like Tide Pods, which in many cases, is WAY too much soap for a medium-sized load, in soft water conditions.

That... and the simple fact that most people greatly overdose detergent to begin with. One thing in particular, is you'll notice that the residual fragrance of detergent is much stronger on clothes, versus a load of the same clothes, washed in a older machine.

Until machines are actually allowed to use more than a single bucket of water, I think this problem will only get worse.

As a Non-Robot I will personally attest that LG is hot garbage.

Although, I never had a issue with their dryer their washing machine was hell in a box. Destroyed plumbing in my home and never cleaned the clothes well. I was so happy to get rid of it.

Since I myself personally believe in open expression of opinion, I'll share mine.

Time and time again, I've read and heard horror stories of LG appliances. I myself had one bad experience with an LG Washer. Years, and years later, as I began to invest in real estate full-time, I acquired a wonderful townhouse that had a Kitchen of LG Appliances. All of them had been installed in Aug-2017, and I purchased the property in April 2020.

By 2021, I had already had the control board fail on the dishwasher. The starter on the gas stove then failed, and the refrigerator compressor actually failed days before Christmas, last year.

My only saving grace, is my vast knowledge encouraged me to demand a home warranty policy, be included by the Sellers. American Home Shield has so far replaced the dishwasher, and fridge, and repaired the stove. I am just waiting, by the phone, at this point... anticipating the microwave to fail or catch on fire. Now that I mentioned it, I'm sure it'll happen in the next week.

Hence, why, I myself think so little of the brand. I see garbage. Not quality. I'm certain, that offline, a lot of people have noticed the same.

We had a Whirlpool when we first got married, and now we have a Samsung, though those are not supposed to be a reliable brand. We’ll keep using it until it stops working. We bought an Electrolux washer a couple years ago and would probably go for a similar dryer. But yes, I remember LG was pretty highly rated by CR. Most major brands did well, though.

A big factor for us was that the local appliance store had certain models in stock, not in a regional warehouse, and I had the washer (and the dishwasher previously) in about 1-2 days, minimizing downtime. IDK if supply chain issues are still the case for these.

Wow. I read this post when martinca originally posted, but had nothing to share as I mostly use line, and have heat pump dryer for remainder. Now I popped in again curious to see why a simple dryer rec post is still so active. I am getting a good chuckle!

I will not be purchasing anymore Samsung appliances, but still like them for electronics. I used to think for a dryer, all i really needed was for it to get hot. However, my Samsung dryer has taught me that drum shape is important, because when we dry sheets they get knotted up into a tight ball, usually with something else in the middle that does not dry. I am not pleased with the way the sensor is calibrated. We always use the very dry setting and even so, the clothes are pretty damp. The lint filter is also designed poorly. Every few weeks I need to grab a metal skewer to clean out the excess lint that does not get on the screen. Every 3-6 months or so, DH has to clean out the duct in the back of the dryer to get the excess lint from there. This is even considering I hang dry a lot of our clothes.

LG washers are/were known for rapidly turning the water inlet valves on/off which causes water hammer (rattling/movement of pipes) which can cause stress/damage to them.

What dadoes said. I lived with that with our LG set for 6 years, and it was irritating and unacceptable. No other front load washer that we owned or that is in our immediate family did or does that. That includes Miele and Kenmore (when they were still Kenmores).

That ’water hammer’ issue is likely not the fault of your washing machine itself but is an easily fixed plumbing issue. You probably had air in the lines after the new hookup. I think generally a regulator takes care of the problem. You should have the problem taken care of as it can damage older pipes.

I have never had that with my LG washer set, but I did have when we owned a FP set. It wasn't the machines, but air in the lines. As Outside said, easily fixed by a reputable plumber.

@OutsidePlaying. It's not that, at all. It's exactly as @dadoes perfectly articulated. The crappy design of LG rapidly shuts the water on & off. It wouldn't be the first time (more like the eighth) that I've heard of an LG Machine doing damage.

Larsi, who used to post here regularly had damage to his home's plumbing. Another member also chimed in stating the same in this discussion.

I have 5 year old Maytag front loaders at home that have worked fine for 5 years - no issues.

We have a 2 year old LG set at our other place - top loader washer. The washing machine is fine but seems to use even less water than my Maytag front loader. We've started selecting the deep wash feature to add a little more water. Never had a water hammer problem.

At the risk of inciting another diatribe, I’ll say we’re very satisfied with our 13 yr old LG set. Washer is non-agitator top loader, dryer is front loader.

My cleaning lady (me) says they have worked great in two houses now. No issues.

Laundry MIch is right on spot. It was definitely not the plumbing in our house when we purchased the LG-it was the terrible design of the machine itself. A user should never ever have to install a plumbing fix to accommodate one brand of a washing machine.

I wonder why the water hammer issue seems to be hit-and-miss. My year old LG front load washer does not have a water hammer issue. Others have posted the same.
