Living room decor help!

What would you do to jazz up this living room? I just can’t decide what color scheme to go with and decor / wall art. What exactly would you do with this space? Open to all ideas. Thank you!

First I would figure out a layout that does not have the back of the sofa to the FP. Then choose a piece of art for the blank wall and grab the accessories color from the art. Looks like you could use some lamps & end tables, also

Is that the entire living room - a sofa, ottoman, bookcase, chair and fireplace?

What color is on your wall

I think we need to see more.

In short you need to work on the layout, declutter and add color.

Mirror doesn’t do anything for the space either.

I’d add greens blues and brown leather. Earthy tones.

Large family photos to personalize the space.

It looks really nice already! Just needs some final touches 💖💖

I’m having trouble editing my original post with more photos and additional details so I’m going to delete this one and start anew. Thank you all!

I would suggest spinning your seating group 180 degrees so that it is facing and centered on the fireplace.

You can add photos in the comments.

My challenge is that I don’t want the tv above the fireplace, and I can’t put the couch on the ping wall bc it’ll face the front door. Here are more pics!

I’ve tried to start editing a bit. Don’t mind the sideways Matisse, trying to get a feel for sizing.

My go to for sizing is blue tape. How do you feel about the sofa having it's back to the front door?

    @shirlpp
Yes, I need to replenish my blue tape supply! Thank you!

I’d be more open to that couch placement if we didn’t have little kids, but right now we need that open space to maneuver stroller and keep a close eye on little ppl by the door 😊 def keeping it in mind for the future, though.

The sofa should have its back to the front door, you can still look to the right into the dining room from that postion. I would not have the sofa face the FP either way as it is a waste of space. turn the rug and try it. you can buy pretty cheap door alarm that will chirp if the door is open as well..

The Feng Shui perspective indicates that sofa with back to front door is not really the best, if it can be avoided. You see the reason behind this thinking as it is reflected in life; many people, and men particularly, don’t like sitting with their back to the front door of restaurants, etc. It’s not a comfortable position in a home, either. The chirping alarm suggested is smart, and might help a bit - but I would avoid that sofa placement if at all possible. And then not to mention - you will open the front door - and - BOOM - there’s the tv - right in front of it - to welcome you and your guests. Plus, the sofa would essentially be blocking the entry. So, imo, you are really better off with what you have going on now.

But I would do one of these arrangements.

    1) Float the sofa facing to the fireplace like this - with tv on right of fireplace.

or 2) Put the sofa on the long wall - but to the end/right side of the long wall: so that the sofa faces the window, where the bench is currently. Put the tv in front of that window. Move the bench to the other window. And put a console with art over it on the wall directly in front of entry door.

    So along these lines:

@freedomplace1 wow, thank you!! After a walk earlier I realized there’s really no way for back of the couch to face the door anyway. I really need that space when coming in with the stroller, bags etc. In person it’s a bit tighter than the photos.
I’m not sure if all of my furniture will fit in your suggested areas, but I may actually be able to repurpose things from other rooms. Thanks again for the inspiration! I’ll try a few things out.

    @freedomace that looks amazing

@Houzz - What is going on with the responses? I'm getting responses from hours ago that are not current. Did you hire someone new?

You have options for the TV but the sofa really belongs on the long wall

You could use a TV easel next t othe FP also.

Get an over ottoman table so you can use the ottoman and still have a surface to place an item upon..

Beverly is spot on, looks like you might have a second chair to test this with in the other room over there.

Can you flip the arrangement and place the TV on the long wall?

@BeverlyFLADeziner we all wanted to try the flip but OP says she needs floor space by the door for getting in and out with ease.

@beverlyfladeziner thank you for the images!! I actually never would have thought to put the tv in that alcove, but it could actually work. Need to grab a stand / table from another room, though. We will be playing around with the space this wknd. THANK YOU, everyone!!!

just put it on top of the bookcase.

In my floor plan I'm not asking you to go beyond the current location of your sofa, just turn it to face the wall. Still plenty of space and the opportunity to have large TV screen in the room.

@beverlyfladeziner makes sense. We plan to play around with everything this wknd. Thank you so much!!

I think the sofa needs to face the fireplace, put. The tv above but the tv that looks like a picture until you turn it on. Not a fan of having your back to the fireplace. Then just get some art and coordinate with pillows and throw . Good Luck , show us after pictures 👍
