Maybe do laundry at night or early in the AM Really how much noise is there .

My laundry room has a solid core door with no sweep. Just closing the door makes a huge difference.

Beyond that buy a washing machines with short cycle times. My Speed Queen is really quick and is the best cleaning I've owned (we have the one with the agitator).

I'd start with that and then add the sweep if needed.

I'd never had a completely private office when I worked downtown. Distractions, other phones ringing, conversations overheard but tuned out - maybe I'm especially good at tuning out. When I began working from home, DH put a TV and nice chair in here and would watch sports behind me. Office is closest room to our garage entrance and his friends would be running in and out checking sports scores ;)

Laundry is across the hall and while it has a heavy door, I never close it. I like being aware of what my laundry is doing while I work. Other side of laundry, next room is a kitchen where I also have a door I could close but don't. I can hear the timer on my stove from here and can be so concentrated on something in front of me, I'd never remember the time.

I think what I'm asking is how much noise your laundry equipment could actually make, if not something your DH would quickly just find to be background noise that wasn't distracting to him. Not criticizing in any way, just wondering.

When I complained to a friend about 'sharing' my office with sports loving men, she suggested I move my things to a guest room at the other end of the house. I haven't. I like the view here from the garden window and have my desk facing it. I like that I can hear my laundry progress and the timer on my stove. I haven't moved.

I would not spend a lot of money on this unless money is no object. Once that door is in place it should be an improvement. In this new world of everyone working from a Home Office, there is going to be sounds of life at home-dogs barking, children, door bells, someone rattling pots and pans, etc. It is the new reality and everyone allows for that in meetings I believe now.

I think I will hold off on sound proofing until the washer/dryer and door are installed and I can test it out. My husband loves noise while he works, but unfortunately he spends half of his days or more 4-6 hours, in zoom meetings, which are often court hearings that have not gone back in person since COVID. Other meetings are with funders and clients. I can just imagine - "Your honor may it please the court" - kerthunk, kerthunk, kerthunk from the dryer in the background.

We lived in our old house at the beginning of covid. The room he worked from had a laundry closet in it and I couldn't do laundry while he was in meetings. It would just be nice to have the flexibility to do so.
