Since you are only doing one room, you might use something even narrower than the 6.5.

There are various installation issues with anything wider than 4 or 5 inches if you are going with a solid wood floor. If you are doing engineered flooring, the installation issues are different.

A narrower width floor is less expensive. I have 4 inch wide flooring, and am very pleased with how it looks.

@kempek01 It's going to be engineered. I now understand that 8.25 is too wide for that room. The rest of the wood flooring in my house is 5" engineered so I don't want to go wider than 6.5 for that reason as well.

I prefer the first sample above as the planks have less variation (but that's the 8") and the second one is too busy as someone else pointed out. Perhaps they are both too rustic.

If this is engineered, check other sources. Less variation can be labeled 'premium or prime' as opposed to rustic.
