We installed pavers in order to maintain ground-level privacy and for their long-term use with minimal maintenance. An egress deck exits from the house. The small deck requires much more care than the entire patio.

Patio will connect better with the rest of your yard level and make for a larger feeling space. I find most decks, unless done extremely well, make a space feel too choppy.

Pavers everytime. If done well they are DONE. A deck is a forever nightmare of cleaning/staining maintenance.
