Some kind of Prunus, I'd say. What are your local wild plums? What about Prunus americana? I don't think the petal count is significant.

I'd go with Prunus as well - maybe wild plum or wild cherry. I am leaning towards the plum, as they bloom earlier than the cherries (at least in my neck of the woods) and the stamens are more pronounced. While 5 petals is the norm, Rosaceae species can have 4 or 6 petals as well.

The plum blooms in our area are usually quite fragrant.

Not sure about the cherries.

My Chickasaw plum is blooming right now and the blooms look like that. Bees seem to love it, and the flowers aren't very fragrant either.

All but the serviceberry are blooming right now and there are tons of Bradford pear seedling trees that have popped up in fields going toward town. They are deffinately not sterile. I am sure there are wild plums somewhere but not near me that I have seen but the pink ornamental ones are in bloom now. When the leaves open I will see about further ID and check for fruit this fall before the squirrels eat them. This is the first year it has bloomed and it is in a pine thicket and very noticable.

my prunus serotina .. i cal it the furnature cherry] .. has the enticing aroma of dirty gym socks left in a gym bag for a month .... but my trees are 50 feet tall ... so there are billions of flowers at a time.. not sure you would smell much of anything of you tried with a spray like in the pic above...

the invasive bradford pears also stink...in the volumes noted ...
