Is this a pink jasmine plant?

Inherited this when a relative died, it has no tag and we know nothing about it, BUT it smells divine and fairly certain the smell is jasmine. Looking at photos of varieties, I would say it's a pink jasmine but I can't find an image that matches up the foliage very well....so I'm uncertain. It's definitely a shrub and not a vine, quite strong flexible branches, and has small clusters of star-shaped flowers. I think it's been in a pot for at least two years.

Would like to know what it is so we can keep it alive, it's so pretty along with the perfume. Thanks for any help in advance!

Unless you are prepared to learn about and carry out the ongoing maintenance of shrubs in pots it would be easier to put it into the ground. They are often planted in winter gardens or by doors and gateways. Being evergreen, and in this case with variegation, they look good all year round, not only when in flower, so there's really no need for them to be portable.

It is some form of Daphne - not related to jasmine.

No, its a daphne - daphne odora I think.

and it looks a bit yellow to my eye.. but that could be a camera trick ... or winter color...

you are growing it long term in a pot??? .. i grew them in the ground in my MI

it might need supplemental light in the house.. how long have you had it.. since you inherited it?? ....

any idea when the last time it was repotted????

it would probably benefit from spending summer outdoors in full bright shade ...

I doubt you grew Daphne odora. It is not winter hardy below zone 7 and certainly would not have survived winter in the ground in MI!!

It is also highly doubtful this plant is being grown indoors. And the photo seems to suggest it is outside as well. btw, Daphne odora can very successfully be grown long term in a container.

Thanks so much for this! I'm (obviously) not familiar with Daphne, but now I will be! To answer a few of the questions....

It has been in a pot since we (my roommate, actually) inherited it; it came to us that way. It was his mom's when she passed away last year, and it has just been sitting next to the greenhouse all this time...until I happened upon the scent a few days ago and went to investigate.

No idea when or if it was repotted, quite possibly never as his mom was 100 and had been inactive quite a while when she passed last year..

I will investigate the ups and downs of planting it as opposed to keeping it in a pot. I like the idea of being able to move it around, particularly being able to put it on the porch where I can enjoy it when it is blooming. But I may want to re-pot it as it deserves something more handsome than what it is in.

I'm really excited about this unexpected beauty! Thanks again for helping me correctly identify it.
