Tile fireplace surround starting to detach

We just move into our home last September. the builder completely renovated the interior including the fireplace. They used large tile, which now appear to be separating from the thin-set. We have experinced a large amount of rain the past few months, not sure if this is normal for a house settling and weather change.

I have to agree, about it being adhered to brick. I think you have every right to worry about it, since if it comes down, and a person, a child or a pet is near it, it could be disasterous. I would call someone other than your builder to come and inspect it, and I would do that fast, before it does come down. Its a beautiful fireplace, otherwise.

What is the tile adhered to: sheetrock, cement board, or, what? Is this happening on both sides? And does the tile seem loose in any way, or are you concerned simply because you have that gap?

@cat_ky just added a picture of the whole fireplace and also one that has a nickle in the gap to show size. Then coin can fit in the narrowest part of the gap and then it fets bigger the further down you go.

@kudzu9 the gap is on both sides. If I shine a light in the gap it looks like the tile is adhered to brick. I’m mostly worried about the front face of the fireplace eventually falling. We do have a warranty, but this is one of many issues we have discovered since moving in. Trying to get a better understanding of what is happening before filing a claim. So far the repairs they have provided seem to be quick fixes and I am beginning to have trust issues!
