Thank you, does the scale mean the multiple? So 4x12 is a 3 and 3x6 is a 2?

Usually the floor in the shower is the same as the overall bathroom floor. I wouldn't mix a herringbone and a hexagon. If you want a smaller tile in the shower, use a smaller herringbone. Or a small hex in the shower and a larger one outside.

I could keep the floors consistent. i could use a small herringbone on the shoeer floor. Would you use that same smaller marble for the niches in white subway?

You just about described my bathroom!

I did 4x16 carrara herringbone floor tiles, 3x12 white subway, cement tile and for the shower floor, a 3" black marble hex

To answer the question of the niche I’d do it in the same tile as the shower walls. You’re going to have shampoo bottles, soap, razors, etc. So it’s not even that visible and not worth it.

I like 12 x24 porcelian tile for both bathroom floors and shower walls to keep grout lines to a min. I think herringbone is now overused and soon will be one of those dated things. The shower floor I just use smaller tiles same material smae color . I do not like niches but if you must do not do it in anccent tile .I have no idea why shampoo bottles are someting to high light .I love the marble floor you can do that in porcelian but IMO a very bust tile to do herringbone.

What did u end up doing ? I liked your inspiration photo the best and thinking of doing white subway with white hex but I’m afraid it will be too overly simple.

Mary, if you start your own post you'll get more help. But white subway/white hex can fit a lot of diff looks. what's the vanity? the countertop? the walls? how big is the bathroom? is it shower or tub or both?

These are all white subway w/either a white hex or a black hex, w/diff sizes and diff tile layouts. notice all of the other items in the room. it doesn't have to be simple if you don't just use plain, generic white on every surface.

instead of a white hex floor, try some blue pennies, or the white/blue pattern tile

or, go w/a black hex

notice the stacked layout of the white tile. gives it a more modern look (Bedrosians Makoto tile)

wood vanities and gold or black fixtures bring in warmth/texture.

even the shower tile layout gets a more interesting look

Hi Elizabeth. I did two bathrooms.

One has small hexes in white with white subway tile. I think it looks great and very simple. I like the small hexes on the floor because it not slippery at all. In the other bath, I mixed marble in a herribone pattern on the floor and then switched to marble in a hex shape for the shower along side white subway for the walls. Hope that helps!
