You're doing a Spanish-style home in the mountains that receive snow? How does that make any sense? Spanish-style homes typically do not have a roof with a steep pitch, and if you're in the mountains, I think you want a roof that sheds snow automatically. At least I would.

I'd select a roof that sheds snow easily so you are not a slave to your roof during the winter. I think that suggests a metal roof so the snow slides off easily.

Thank you so much for your reply! Yes. 2 of The samples we received as shown on the video link are tile on the barrel style look in metal. Which helps with trusses weight and amount of snow. This year in that part of utah we recieved about 5 feet of snow. I just love that style and hoping to make that work and find the style on metal that would work for the weather . So, hoping those samples could be a possibility. Seems like a fairly new material. Thank you so much Beverly for the pictures and your input.!❤️

I love this style of house i found in houzz. In Denver Colorado mountain home .with similar weather conditions hopefully doable? Love the colors. But looking for a similar style 1 story home or ranch style. .

Those are two different house. Just because someone else makes a mistake does not justify making a similar mistake. Perhaps a southwestern adobe style would be more fitting and less pretentious.

Marrying two different homes into 1 i know. We are thinking the slope in these roofs of the homes we are using as inspiration looks great for snow if we can get the right material. Hence the video i posted earlier about metal samples. Helping the snow slide faster. rather than a flat roof of an adobe style

I had one client that, against my recommendation, married a south west Pueblo style interior with a northern Michigan cottage style exterior. I told him they may have a hard time selling it when they go to sell. Many years later I ran into him in a store and he shared with me, "Hey, we sold the house, man it was hard to sell."

IMO first you ask your architect what roofing he is planning for a mountain site . I agree wrong style of house for the locale I live where we can get 7 ft of snow and the best roof here with a nice slope is a metal roof not one that looks like spanish tile but one where the snow can slide off. I am all for building a home you love but the climate dictates many things . I did a very contemporary interior with a 1905 1 1/2 storey home sold in 10 days no problem but the exterior suited the area it was in.

No one's forcing you to live in Utah. The warm sunny climate that goes with your preferred style helps create a culture with benefits you may love as much. With working from home match your house to the exact location it belongs at. Be really happy.

This is more current Mediterranean design. No tile roof.

People do build Mediterranean-style homes in Utah such as the one pictured below in Washington, Utah. I would suggest contacting a local custom builder and seeing what they recommend. Brava makes nice-looking composite tiles in various shapes/colors and they say their product can be used in freezing and snowy climates. Their website is www.bravarooftile.com.

IF your site and house is large enough, it will fit in well with itself. I would suggest contacting a local architect and seeing what they recommend.

Thanks guys for your help! We are thinking this as our forever home.   Brava is one of the samples un the video below Elle.  We are documenting our journey on YouTube.  And when working with our architect on floorplans.  The trusses lumber package came up with clay obviously having to reinforce the roof with the weight.  Plus the snow issue.  So we are looking at alternatives Brava( i think brava is the synthetic) . Deccra ( metal with stone covered). and Berridge ( is the metal one.    . If you want to check it out.
