Nope, the pattern will likely 'telegraph' through because the brick is likely not completely flush.. Cover the brick with 1/4" drywall if it can be glued directly to the brick.

Get the brick wall furred out if at all possible. then drywall, then paper. You need a contractor ( drywall guy ) and a paper hanger.
