I'd put that tile on the floor only and find a different, smaller format tile for the shower walls. A blush pink subway tile or vertically stacked 2 x 8 or 1 x 6 would be lovely.

This pink is a little too dark, IMO. I'd go a bit lighter. But this give you an idea of how it could look.

Oh ok. Then I will have to find something else for the shower floor. The idea was to use a black and white tile for the shower, which is enclosed by walls on 3 sides, and then bright white paint for the walls and the vanity. I would also use handmade glossy white subway tiles by the sink.

Do you still think the shower tile I chose would be overwhelming? I envisioned a sort of low maintenance cocoon for the shower area, hence the dark colors. Another option I considered is:

This is the subway tile. Floors would be polished concrete. Any feedback on these selections?

Pink is not my style sorry.. maybe blush pink but I think white is better for the walls outside the shower, due to the low light situation. And black in the shower is better for maintenance. I also like to look. I am somebody that likes colors for furnishings and accessories, so I can change easily if I get tired..

With an enclosed shower on 3 sides I wouldn't want a dark tile. You don't want to feel like you're showering in a cave. Black can also be very hard to maintain if you have hard water. If you want low maintenance, look for a larger tile that can be set closely together for the walls so you have less grout to clean. Then a smaller tile on the shower floor for traction.

32" X 32" is so small it's going to be very uncomfortable to use. Do you really need one in your basement? If you can't make it bigger (36" X 36" at a minimum, or 32" X 42") I would consider skipping having a shower stall at all. Whatever you decide to do, the trick to having tiles match is to use different sizes from the same manufacturer in the same color. Be sure to pick a tile that has edge pieces available. The shower floor can be small squares or hexagons. Or if you're interested in doing something basic, just use a standard acrylic floor pan. I agree with calidesign that a shower with a black interior of that size would be claustrophobic.

Well, as a European 32x32 seems perfectly ok for a small shower. We do need it since we have only another bathroom 😒

Anyway I will think about the issue you raised.

We have a secondary shower that is 29" x 30". It's a tight fit but usable. The walls are a light colored tile. A dark tile would feel claustrophobic to me.

Skip the terrazzo-look porcelain... ugh, looks terrible in person. I used this through-body ceramic terrazzo recently. Venice Villa - Terrazzo Porcelain If it chips, the color goes all the way through the tile. It comes in white, gray, blue, red, black and a couple other colors. I bought it for $7.99.

It is non-slip and can be sanded so no need for bullnose.

BTW, a 32x32 shower is fine but build in a wrap-around shampoo niche if you can, for more elbow room.

paul f. I am about to buy venice villa terrazzo porcelain and noticed your older post. Not sure mine is the same as this. THe one im looking at also is through body and looks the same but the price is much more. 24x24 around 16.00/sf. Where did you buy yours? Is it made in Italy?
