Dramatic Kitchen

I bought a small spec house and got a good deal, but I have to take it "as is" and the builder's decorator has installed a dramatic kitchen with a black backsplash. It looks like a smaller version of the photo below, but mine has darker floors - almost espresso. The house has an open floor plan with the kitchen at the back of the house, dining room in the middle and living room at the front. I am wondering how to decorate the rest of house - furniture, paint, rugs, etc? I am thinking of keeping it low key with a creamy area rug in the living room - a modern sofa in a warm grey, maybe a tan leather accent chair... I am really not sure how to tie this all together. Really appreciate any suggestions.

until we see 'your' house, we are just guessing.

we will wait for your pictures.

BTW, I really like the black splash w/those cabs. (do your cabs/tile look exactly like that? w/the granite on the island?

Very similar cabinets but instead of the granite on the counters, mine will have more of a cream coloured quartz with light caramel veining.

Sorry everyone - I don't have possession of the house yet, so I took some photos when I stopped by to measure for blinds. I realized the backsplash is actually a very dark brown - not black. Aside from my current dining table - also a very dark espresso brown/black I will be choosing new furniture so would love to get some ideas on colours that would work and be somewhat consistent throughout.

great looking kitchn. you need some nice looking pendants over that island though.

as for the table, what's your style? you could do a white or black marble if you want more modern

furniture-wise, a neutral calif boho look would work.

or you could go a bit more contemporary

wow, you're good. Love both of these. The table style is sort of farmhouse and I was hoping the living room would lean just a little more contemporary.. LOVE those neutrals you have chosen. You wouldn't hesitate to pull in black or dark grey in spite of that dark brown backsplash?

    Absolutely agree on the pendants!!

Great looking kitchen not really dramatic but it needs some color so look for some teal stools for the island then use that color in the space next to this . If you table is the same color as the floor you will need a rug and that rug needs to be 3' bigger than the table all the way around .LIke this then therug also has some and another shade of blue so that can now go into the kitchen and the LR for accents . It srats a color cheme no reason to use these exact colors but you get the idea . I have no idea of your style but IMO all kitchens need really good lighting and that comes mostly from pot lights all LED 4000K The you add the accent lighting for the pendants also LED but you can have a bit of fun with themI think something like maybe the black with the brass inside might work but then brass hardware for the cabinets . This is a lot of fun to start with . Now find a sofa you love to sit on do not buy a sectional then come back and we can help some more that sofa will be what drives the decor in the LR . I do not love farmhouse so IMO you have enough already But I do love MCM .So share a bit with us of what you love.I went to your idea books not seeing much farmhouse there but some lovely more classic decor so of course go in that direction if you love it.

oh you could certainly do a black. I have a black leather sofa in my own place. I pair it w/a vintage mcm walnut credenza and some custom art. I like a bit more color in my space.

    Article Sven sofa

you could add color w/art, or a rug, pillows, throws, or large ceramic pot, whatever you like.
