Help needed with kitchen backsplash

My kitchen came in and with buldhead the height is under 8 foot..

i am debating beteeen square 5” by 5” glossy white vs subway pale beige 2 by 8

i think i am more leaning for subway tile for more contemporary look by stacking them question is would it be better horizontal or verical? its about 20” distance between upper and lower cabinet and stove area is 28” height difference

my counter top will be calacatta with gold vein (quartz)

Pale beige will be very similar to my surrounding wall thats painted with benjamin moore pale oak

so question is to stack vertical or horizontal?

and which grout colour to go? i placed warm gray, frosted, abblaster above..

do not care for the beige subway tile. too reminiscent of bisque appliances. dont lay that in your nice new kitchen..........and backsplash does not need to match walls at all... the square white tile would be fine w slight warmth to a an off white grout. question is: how about a color tile or pattern tile? does it need to be white or off white only? you have some height to work in pattern and /or color to good effect and its not a big area overall so why not something a bit more interesting for the eyes?

I did this in my small kitchen, I like the stacked look (please ignore range hood.. it was a pandemic supply chain choice, soon to be replaced 😀). And the walls match the cabinets in real life (BM simply white). Good luck with your Reno

This is beige tile I am

    considering, its soft warm beige

If it matches the pale oak exactly in tone then I’d say it’s nice. Make sure it does before proceeding.

You need to consider the counters….make sure the tile goes with cabs and your quartz. I’ve not seen your counters (and pros always recommended waiting until those are in before selecting tile), but the beige sounds wrong with a Calacatta Gold, even if quartz and not marble. You may even end up painting your walls afterwards, but that’s an easy, inexpensive job compared to making a tile mistake. Good luck!

    My countertop is in finally…

First photo has tile samples, glossy white far left, beige tiles stacked together then square glossy tile.

    whats your pick?

I think the larger square tile would look cool.

    I agree with RedRyder

Square color is pretty—is it gray? definitely not beige.

That's a beautiful counter! I wonder if you couldn't get more of that and run it up the wall.

I think the subway tiles are more current - the square looks dated. Use a matching grout rather than contrasting.

On my iphone the pics are not very clear so it’s hard to tell.

Is all your lighting installed? If not, I'd wait to choose until then.

All monitors are different, but the square one to the right looks great on mine. Get MORE TILES before you make a final decision. One tile can’t be a good decision.

I also think the square will add more contrast, so if you don’t want contrast, ignore my vote. 😂

I went to shop and narrowed down to either this light beige 2 by 16” on left or white subway 2.5 by 8”

i will stack on horizontal either tiles…

i like how modern it will look with light beige one and since my space for backsplash will be small , i wonder it will complement the space by using longer tile

i love how this white subway tile has variation in colours too

    i am torn between them,

    what do you think??

i cant find many photos with 2 by 16” tile and having harder time to visualize it…

16" is a very long tile. You might have some problems with lippage when it is installed. I like the glossy white as long as it coordinates well with the countertop and cabinets. It's really tough to tell with your photos.

Yes, 16” is too long to work with for your backsplash. Can you get it in 12”?

Obviously everyone’s taste is different, but I’d stay away from the looong, beige tile. I think the whiter, slightly gray tiles will work better, but take photos with your counters and tile, as before.
