If staing true to the home age then the narrow flooring . I am not a big believer in the idea that the inside neds to match the outside . But you already hove some of the narrow floor so why not just stick with that to save money . I am also not a big lover of whatever trend is happening .

Why do you need to remove all the flooring?

Forget the trend and do the narrow flooring if you really need to remove the first floor wood.

consistant would be my choice.

I would stay consistent with the history of your home and go with 2 or 2 1/4".

I would think it would make a difference on resale. I am not sure how much, but if I saw 2-1/4 throughout the house, and then saw 4 inch, I would think, "oh, this is where they did a renovation and took the less expensive way out". It might not be accurate, or sway me from buying or not buying the place though. Still, it would be more to the negative side then positive.

I think a 2 1/4 board is pretty darn classic! There are about 80 billion miles of it all over the USA. I'd go for the consistency. Bonus? The board width is very stable , less prone to the fluctuations in humidity and lack thereof.

Just finished a very classic huge home reno, and it's everywhere. We chose it for its LACK of trendiness : ) and married new to old with a beautiful finish.

Here's what I said 9 days ago when you asked the same question:

You are in a 1920s colonial. 2.25 inch width fits the home's history.

However, you should not be concerned about the next buyer. They will not pick your house over another because of 4 (or 8) inch floors if they are in great condition. They will not also select another home because you have 2.25 inch floors that are in great condition.

People who would make those choices are probably not buying 1920s colonials.
