I see no reason to have concerns any more than any other rug over radiant heat . Make sure the rug is not rubber on the back with the vinyl floor and make sure the UV rays are controlled by soalr shades or whatever since the sun will fade even vinyl

Not adviseable you will minimize the lifespan of the Radiant system as well as asking for flooring issues. Theres a reason all Radiant MFG warn against rugs. especially non breathable spillproof rugs. Once your cable or zone shorts your investment is kaput.

I have never installed radiant heat for clients where they were told no rugs. The heat should never go above 85 and every one of my clients with radint heat have rugs not one issue . To be safe ask the heat company if they have this silly rule.

Radiant means heat radiates..... Im speaking to electric radiant heat not HYDRONIC.

. Ruggables has a NON breathable mat underneath thats how its spill-proof.

It in fact can cause a heat diffusion issue and worse force an overheating short in the area of the ruggable Especially if placed over a sensor..

Nearly all electric heat MFG tell you not to install under Vanity's toilets not to place beds directly on top of floor as well as rugs/carpets.

Now an non woven very breathable small rug> maybe never be an issue.

Nearly every single MFG of electric heat warns against rugs, carpets . for Tile, LVT alike .

"Allow mortar to cure for 7 days after grouting before putting the floor warming into service. • Do not place furniture or mats over the floor temperature sensor as they could act as insulation and lower the temperature of the floor warming system therefore causing the floor to feel cooler. •

***Area rugs are not recommended over the DITRA-HEAT system. • Futons, mattresses, floor-level furniture, pillows, etc. must not be placed directly onto the heated floor. These objects will prevent heat diffusion (i.e., air circulation) and could result in damage. "

Short answer: Rugs are fine if they are made of natural materials to allow radiant het escape for efficiency. Any synthetic traps heat instead of transporting it. 100% wool, Kilem, jute and sisel are all exaples of natural material rugs excellent for heated floors. Stay away from all synthetics.

Very few plastic floors are allowed to go on top of radiant flooring. None on electric radiant. Few on hydronic. The loops need to specifcally be low temperature loops. Otherwise, you are going to get all kinds of separation and buckling.
