Paint something beautiful

We are painting the trim on our boring house and I would love any suggestions and inspiration.

What we will paint: Second storey wood around windows, porch wood trim and columns, stair handrails, front door, garage trim, garage doors.

Unfortunately the roof is new and done by the previous owners before we purchased the house, so any colours would have to go with the brown. Down the road I’d love to change the brown roof to something dark grey/black.

The colors you already have, look good with your brick, and your roof. I would leave them. Add color on your nice front porch, with some nice furniture with colored cushions, and some pots of plants. Put some blooming type plants in those flower beds too. Your house is not boring, it just looks a bit un finished.

Thanks. It’s not quite spring yet here in the North but soon there will be flowers in the beds and on the porch. My patio furniture is black but I have grey cushions that are not out yet that I could spice up with color. I have to paint the wood trim to fix the peeling paint and rot. Definitely going to replace the cream colour. I’d like to paint our door dark. Garage I’m not so sure about. I get what you mean though. Thanks for commenting.

What about a very dark brown? I love black with brick, but with the brown roof, that wouldn't work.

There are many ways to paint the trim on your house to make it stand out and add some visual interest. Here are a few suggestions and inspiration:

Consider a bold color: Instead of sticking with traditional white or beige trim, consider a bold color that will make your house stand out. A deep navy blue or forest green could be a great option.

Think about contrasting colors: If you want to make the brown roof work, consider contrasting it with a lighter color for the trim. For example, a light gray or off-white could be a great option.

Add some texture: If you want to add some texture to your trim, consider using a textured paint or adding some wood accents. This could be a great way to add some visual interest to your home.

Look for inspiration online: There are many great resources online for inspiration when it comes to painting the trim on your house. Look for home design blogs or social media accounts to see what other people have done with their homes.

Don't forget about the front door: The front door is a great opportunity to add some color and personality to your home. Consider a bold color that will stand out against the rest of the trim.

Remember, when it comes to painting your house, the most important thing is to choose a color and style that you love and that makes you happy. Take your time, look for inspiration, and don't be afraid to experiment until you find the perfect look for your home.

The house is not boring at all. The color scheme is cohesive and everything works beautifully together. Most of the time, when you see a house with two shade of brick, a small section of clapboards, some gingerbread trim and some board and batten around the windows, it looks like a horrible mishmash, yours doesn't. Don't ruin it.

This color scheme could work for your home and complement the brick

The current color is quite harmonious with your brick, especially the decorative brick at the corners. You've already got a lot going on colorwise--wood trim; decorative brick corner trim; garage doors; brown roof; brown flashing over windows. Introducing a color that won't work as well as the current one, with just chop things up.

You could get wood garage doors.

Even if you don't change garage doors, the wood side fencing really brings down the house. It's an extension of the house and should be taken into the color scheme. Any reason that doesn't bother you?

I am in the add color camp. Why bother with all the cute trim if it's going to be blah colored?

Olychick's dark brown is nice. I'd throw in more color somewhere. Drive around and see if anyone in the subdivision has good colors. Go nuts on the paint co. web sites testing out different combos.

I love this look on a brick house where all the trim iis the same color it enhances both the brick and the trim

Thanks all! I know what those of you mean when you say leave the colour scheme alone. I never liked the colours but now that I’ve been trying many different paint colours through paint visualizer programs, I see what you mean that the colours are probably okay.

I just feel in my heart a need for deeper, or more interesting colour. My old house I had repainted with blues and it made me so happy to look at that house. I want that same feeling. That’s why I was leaning away from cream and beige.

I have played around with darker colours and part of me is really attracted to that. I will keep searching and thinking on this. Thanks again to all those who have taken the time to comment.

If you truly love blue, put it on your front door! I would be sure that EVERYTHING else—fretwork, window trim, garage doors, etc.—is painted cream. Then your blue front door will be the star of the show!
