Lighting and a plant rail are both simple and relatively inexpensive things to fix if you do change your mind in 5 years, so if you love them now, I wouldn't fret too much about it - this is not a decades-long commitment like a floor or professional-grade appliance. I would be more concerned about whether these accessories make sense in your existing kitchen or if they look like an afterthought.

I like the DeVol/Plain English look, but if you are concerned about it becoming passe, I'd be more hesitant on these items that will be very expensive to change:

• Heavily veined marble
• Farmhouse sink
• Plastered/oversized range hood
• AGA stove
• Dark/heavily saturated painted cabinets
• Furniture style island with minimal storage

All that said, I don't really know whether this look has taken off in the average home to the point where I'd worry it will be a passing trend. Reading Houzz posts, most new kitchens seem to be either a warm modern farmhouse / "belgian" look (light oak + white + black accents + plastered hood + open shelves/cabinets that reach down to the counter) or are still in the shiny white and gray trend. I don't necessarily think DeVol is going to be something like a Tuscan kitchen that will instantly date a home.

The fixture will be OK as long as it's placed in a quirky overly detailed kitchen space.

It's a small-scale fixture and looks too small in a kitchen like you see below IMO.

I would suggest something more like this below. Still quirky but the scale is better.

Thanks for the responses. I think that helps narrow it down to considering whether or not they fit in with what we have and if the scale is workable.

I struggle with this same predicament and feel you’ve gotten good advice. I genuinely like vintage decor (even before the recent trendiness of this look) so I try to imagine if the thing I’m considering fits with everything I have already or is it just a “look” I like in trendy but well-designed spaces. If it fits with my stuff, I’m likely to continue liking it longterm even after the trend passes.

I love the light fixture FWIW.

I think the veined marble is the item that will date kitchens the most. I can instantly tell the era of a kitchen by the type of countertop.

@webuser_ 786635126 That's correct. It sounds like you're not familiar with DeVOL Kitchens where the light fixture is sold, and their heavy use of veined marble countertops. It's a "thing".

I too love those deVol lights but they just didn't work for my space. I'm still looking for somewhere to put them! Check the Lauren Liess x Troy Lighting collab, too; could be a couple ideas there.

Such uncovered light sources cause a lot of glare.
