Is it modern, traditional, transitional? Wall color? Hardware color? That makes a big difference. Given the absolutely wild cost of Danby right now, I wouldn't recommend a slab backsplash. Also with a lot of movement it could be a bit much in a small kitchen. But really need to know more to speak intelligently.

Walls will be light, haven’t chosen hardware yet. Cabinets and slab ordered but construction not started yet. Doing a stainless sink so probably a metal tone faucet. I would have liked Danby backsplash but thought with so much white going on some texture on backsplash would be nice.

FYI, I looked at three showrooms and interestingly all the Calacatta, which I originally liked, was running four times the price of Danby….

Calacatta has been 2-3x the cost of Danby at least since the pandemic happened. But Danby is 3x or more the cost of Carrera, and 2x or more the cost of Ceasarstone and most granite. And probably 5x the cost of a tile backsplash.

More to the point, if you want to inject some color and you have a heavily veined stone, you should do tile. What kind is really dependent on what you like and what the other elements are. It sounds like you don't really have a vision for the space. You need to develop one if you want it to be coherent. Find inspiration photos with similar elements to those you've picked, hone in on what makes you like those spaces and what you can extract for your own kitchen, and then sample/view actual materials to refine further.

Without some direction and more info like how much backsplash you have, how the kitchen relates to the rest of the house, etc., it's sort of shooting in the dark.

Keep in mind that slabs vary.

My marble backsplash is not overwhelming or overpowering. No grout lines help it to look very calm and cohesive.

My slab backsplash was only a little more expensive than a tile backsplash.

Short backsplashes in the same material are common in UK, and are becoming more popular again in the US. Then you could put either a taller piece right behind the range, or stainless to match the range there.

Thank you palimpsest for your suggestions. And HU I’m not a designer so doing my best - I have good taste and previous kitchens have come out very nice. I am doing danby marble (regular I guess, not imperial) and am leaning towards Cloe white squares after going through an ungodly amount of tile samples. My cabinets are wood, not white though, so maybe its too much white with your cabs? I think the gray tiles helps tie in the marble veining

Thanks - yes so many tiles to choose from!!! I had seen a diamond shape in Dolomite but decided when installed kind of has a picket fence look!! I might look at the tiles that have shade variation - mimicking hand made. That could add a bit of color. Tile store suggested glass tiles but they felt a bit passé. Back to the store!! Thanks for your input!!

Could we see some pics of your space , IMO backsplash and wall color are 2 things done after everything else is in the kitchen . So post some pics here in a comment and see what happens for ideas .

Thanks - still pre construction. Bought cabinets and slab. My contractor told me same - backsplash goes last so plenty of time lol!! Just trying to put it together…photos of current space too dreadful to oust!! 40 year old kitchen. My new kitchen will look like kitchen posted above.

ME TOO! SO HARD.

Having frequented these forums plenty over the last several years, my advice is to hold off on backsplash selection. Countless people attempt to get everything ordered/selected in advance, only to come here and seek help when the installed product doesn't look right in the space. Get your cabinets and counters in, then bring samples to the actual space to determine the right material.
