We are about to order and finalize lighting and mirror for our bathroom that we are redoing, and I want some input on if this will work with the amount of space we will have with a 36" vanity base. The left side of the vanity is up against a wall, right side will be the toilet.

The wall sconces I'm looking at are these or something similar and would be on each side of the mirror. The shade/tube is around 2.5 inches wide, but the backplate is 5 inches. I've found some others that are closer to 4 inches for the backplate. That leaves me with barely enough room for a 22 inch wide mirror that I've got my eye on, but it looks like most mirrors are 24 inch, which makes things even tighter. I've found a few 20 inch ones and I think we would be fine with that. We are used to a pretty small mirror - our current one is a 15 inch oval with a wood frame that makes it around 19 inches. I'd been looking at fairly simple mirrors but don't have my heart set on something specific yet, as the lighting is more of a priority to me.

I'd personally prefer two wall sconces on either side of the mirror as opposed to an over-mirror light, I'm just concerned about balance and space and it being too crowded with the amount of room we have with the wall and vanity.

I guess my question is more specifically - how much space is going to work surrounding the sconces between them and the wall or them and the mirror?

This is for our powder room on our main floor.
