Agree with Lyn. Same fllooring. We just finished doing this and we stuck with hardwoods that can be refinished multiple times, same as downstairs. For softness, you can add area rugs in the bedrooms if you prefer something soft to step onto when you get out of bed.

I prefer all the same but IMO bedroom decor and flooring can be different from the rest of the house and you already had that with the carpet.
