Pieter - I’m south of you & solidly in zone 8 so I have to ask - is your gorgeous LL so far along in unfurling pips because it’s in a pot & not in ground? That’s a mini? I think I have one but haven’t seen it yet. None of my hosta are that far along - some of the larger & older ones have pips standing almost 5“ tall but all are in ground. I do have a couple in large planters though & they are barely peeking up. Now, I do see beautiful Camelias in bloom all over town so I’m not surprised at your Camelia flowers! And the white flowers of the Star Magnolia arer in full bloom here too. But I imagine that you are running the same 10 degrees below norm for this time that we are. And wet! We all should have fully webbed feet by now!

KW..it surprises me that my hosta in zone 6 are ahead of yours..isn’t nature funny?..

@nicholsworth Z6 Indianapolis Well, ’funny’ is one way to describe it! 😁 I do agree that mother nature is most certainly unpredictable. Seems that these past couple of years most of the country is experiencing very different weather patterns than their norms. I laughed that your Hydrangeas aren’t clipped yet - I managed that only @ week ago. My two paniculata & one small mophead are really pushing out leaf buds so thought I best not delay. My clematis are coming to life too! I get out in my yard between rain storms & the occasional hail we’ve seen. Crazy weather!

KW..we’ve been warm..as high as 80!..then dropped to 30’s..I put my impulse buy macrophylla in my garage..crazy weather is so true..

KW, hostas in pots are typically farther along this time of year because the medium in the pots warms up much faster than the ground. Indeed, 'Lemon Lime' is a mini, it's from the late 70's so it's been around for a while..Yup, it's been a wet one. And a cool one.

KW, by way of illustrating how much of difference pot vs in-ground can make, I just took these pix a few minutes ago of 2 different 'Chinese Sunrise', one in the ground and one in a pot. The pictures speak for themselves, BUT, having said that, the one in the pot had the container warmed up by sitting in direct sun whenever it was out starting around mid-March and the other is in the ground in an area that's full shade this time of year so it hasn't seen any direct sun at all and therefore the ground hasn't warmed anywhere near as quick.

Everyone, thanks for the cheerful color!! My hostas are just starting to poke threw the dirt…..although Liberty is about 4-5” already. My yellow stargazer lilies are not in bloom but they grow at an unbelievable rate……1/2 to 1 inch daily……no kidding! I would join the color fest, but I don’t have much color yet….

Lemon lime is one of the very few hostas I've had for 20+ years. It's a small hosta but it grows vigorously for me, and I've divided mine multiple times. One of the best for flowers too IMO.

@Pieter zone 7/8 B.C. Thanks for the comparison pics. I feel much better now about the growth status of my hosta!

I can’t believe the warmth some of you have had, I don’t think we’ve cracked 60 yet!
