La Croix sparkling water — should I try it?

Do you like it?

If so, what flavors?

Is this one of those trends I missed and everyone has moved on to better?

Is it overpriced for what it is?

Is it raining where you are?

I like Club soda with a squirt of lemon or lime. Or I pour a measure (about a jigger) of wine in my wine glass, ad ice and then water to the top. It doesn't have to be complicated.

(I like club soda with a squirt of vodka ... Deep Eddy with real fruit grapefruit juice specifically)

We just moved from a town with natural soda springs. It's not far away. There are 7 wells, open to the public. We'd make orange juice with the spring water...cranberry juice....that sort of thing.

Yes we've tried La Croix...it's OK. I sometimes buy store brand. They're about the same.

I like sparkling ice brand sparkling water. It has antioxidants and vitamins and no sugar. I particularly like the pineapple coconut and the lime coconut. I don't drink but I get you - we are outside most evenings from early spring to late fall. Sometimes we just take our ice tea out or sometimes I will do water with ice as I never seem to drink enough water. LOL But I do like the sparkling ice drinks too.

Oh and no rain here - it has been the most glorious weather. I went to the nursery yesterday and bought a bunch of flowers/plants for my pots!!

I'm boring. My non-alcoholic drink of choice is ice water. I like it with lemon and I like it to be really cold. On the wine front, I often fill a glass with ice cubes and then add wine. I have never claimed to be sophisticated! I Iive in the Pacific Northwest, so of course it is raining.

I’m so jealous of you getting rain, nekotish. We had a promising start for a rainy spring, but now it keeps going around us.

I have not found any sparkling waters that I like. I find most of them too bland. I was really looking forward to the La Croix grapefruit flavor. What a disappointment!

Have you tried any of the FeverTree tonics? They are not low-cal but they sure are good, even without adding gin. I like the Fever Tree Elderflower.

DD and DSIL are big fans of Topo Chico. It sounds like Topogigio to me. Remember him?

I've tried a few brands, but LaCroix is by far my favorite. (I hate Bubly, it tastes super fake to me.) I love any of the citrus flavors -- lemon, lime or grapefruit.

By far my favorite though is Peach Pear Lacroix, which is really hard to find. It sounds too sweet, but it's really not. very refreshing.

I'm not a wine or soda drinker. I do like sparkling mineral water at times--Peleigrino (sp), Gerolsteiner (sp). I'll squeeze some lemon into it and when I feel a party coming on, I'll add margarita ingredients to it. I don't do sugar in drinks so I don't have to factor in missing the sugar.

No rain or more importantly, no snow today!! WhooHoo! Tops down and hit the slopes. (not me--ha!) I'm just driving home. Which I'm really happy about!

I drink La Croix and find them refreshing. These are VERY minimally flavored - just very faint flavors that are more equivalent to the lime Perrier than a soda.

There are some "sparking" waters like Sparkling Ice that are really just soda in trendy flavors, I have a few bottles of their Cherry Lime in my refrigerator because it reminds me of going to the local soda fountain as a kid and ordering a Cherry Lime Rickey

I love Hal's New York Sparkling water in the vanilla flavor - it is not a strong flavor and not sweet at all. Just a bare hint to make it more interesting.

My favorite mocktail is just diet tonic, ice, and any citrus peel I have on hand - lemon, lime, orange, and/or grapefruit. It's very refreshing and I really don't miss the gin!

Agree that the FeverTree tonics are yummy!

    hi jill,

there is a mix of assorted drinks in the specialty drinks/soda at supermarket call Fever Tree (brand name) and there are 3 or 4 that are only 35 calories, not artificially sweetened and NOT marketed as DIET. just a happy accident that they are not only delicious but not bad for your figure :) They are also carried in liquor stores as they ARE marketed as an upscale drink mixer. Many are tonic water, but the sparkling water originally only came in one flavor and i an mad for it. i hope you can have and like pink grapefruit. btw, this tastes nothing like fresca.

they come in glass bottles, 4 to a pretty little cardboard holder/transporter. btw. marketing counts. i do not like sparkling water, had in fact tried many of that brand you are taking about, they sound luscious. i tried these because it was new to me, i love citrus and to tie this in to a deco convo, i just happened to be looking for a shade of pink that i could, so far, only see in my mind, the cute little carton was exactly the pink i wanted! it intrigued me, sounded and looked interesting and attractive.

they are made in brooklyn, ny i believe and have website with a where-to-find locator. they are gaining in popularity because they are stealing more and more of that oh so expensive shelf space.

finally, i drink mine in a tall iced glass with or without topping of tonic water, just a splash, a nice squeeze of lime, a squirt of ginger (from tubed ginger paste) some blackberries and a sprig of mint. but many times it is just pink grapefruit, lime.

i hope you might try this and enjoy it

I forgot to add another favorite Spindrift flavor is grapefruit. I had to give it up because of a medication I was on for a while, but I can have it again. I'm not crazy about their raspberry lime but it's the only one I don't love. The plain Lemon is also very good.

Be wary of some that advertise no sugar, no artificial sweeteners. They may use something like sugar alcohols or stevia or monkfruit, which also often has erythritol added - if you want to avoid those things. I don't like the taste of any of them myself.

Tina, we have something in common and with summer almost here, I need to stock up.

Sparkling Ice I wasn't fond of any flavored water until I saw a display of the bottles at Walmart. You know how you feel when looking at all the colors of a snow cone, or Sonic drinks? That's how I felt. Not sure the price now, but tall bottles were a dollar each so I bought an assortment which is a good way to weed out the flavors you don't like.

I keep it in the fridge just so it will be colder when poured over ice. A bottle last me a couple of days and if I drink soda it's always diet.

Sprite, club soda, or even 7up is great with a few dashes of flavored syrup. Like they do at Sonic. ;)

I do like La Croix. My favorites are Key Lime (not regular Lime), Razz-Cranberry, Passionfruit, Pamplemousse, and Guava Sao Paulo.I also really like, even better than La Croix, the San Pellegrino Momenti's that @mtnrdredux_gw posted. They do have some calories (35 I think), so depends on your goal. I've tried only one flavor of Spindrift (grapefruit) and it's ok, but now I need to try the flavors that @Olychick is suggesting.

btw, the fever tree pink grapefruit does NOT taste like a typical sparkling water, iow, fizzy water with a hint of flavoring. trust me on this, drink it like i do with lime, squeeze of ginger some blackberries or your favorite berry, with a sprig of mint. refreshing and dolled up enough for that cool evening cocktail hour with that fabulous hubby.

3 or 4 others have gave fever tree an approving nod, too.

we love seltzer so much that we bought a Soda Stream. that broke after ten years so we upgraded to a fancy Aarke. an expensive upgrade, but I hope it will last much longer than the plastic machines and it looks so pretty.

we like to add lemon/lime slices, or vodka or whiskey. 😉

I've also experimented with so many different types of flavor droplets. I do not recommend any of them.

Skipping down to say I buy the flavored seltzer from Aldi - you get more for the money and it has flavors we like - strawberry, blackberry, tangerine, lime and grapefruit. I buy LaCroix when I can't get my preferred brand - not a fan of most of their flavors, except tangerine and grapefruit (pamplemouse). Aldi's are definitely more flavorful.

We've been drinking seltzer almost exclusively for some years now. No soda here - tea, and coffee are the only other beverages for us. I guess we're teetotalers nowadays. I barely ever drink alcohol anymore and neither does hubby. Sipping on a bubbly seltzer when socializing is like sipping a beer - without the hangover😉

And last time I bought lime LaCroix, it was Key lime, and had vanilla in it, which tasted strange to me. I don't care for many of the fruit flavor combos. They tend to taste weird, IMPO. And there are also artificially sweetened seltzer beverages which I don't like - I have to check ingredients to be sure it's unsweetened.

I buy both cans and bottles.

And I WISH it would rain - it's dry as dust here - whatever happened to April showers?

    Going back to read now...

I have La Croix sometimes. I prefer the lime and often add my own lime. Once I bought the key lime flavor...do not recommend if you have ever had lemon/lime colonoscopy prep drink...exact replica flavor wise. Horrible.

Topo Chico is my favorite sparkling water -- strong bubbles with staying power. I've left an open bottle overnight and it still tastes good the next morning. I've tried a couple of Waterloo flavors (Whole Foods pick up) and HEB -- mainly their grapefruit. I'm sure there have been others but that's my favorite. I'm also a LaCroix drinker -- Peach Mango, Pamplemousse (grapefruit), Cran-Razzberry are probably my favorites. I've been afraid to try lemoncello because the key lime is gawd awful (they tried to put that cream pie feeling in it and that is not what I was expecting). I drink more still water and unsweetened tea, but sometimes I add fruit to my tea or need the bubbles of sparkling water. For me they are the anti-soda rather than a gateway to them.

I replaced wine with a mix of 2/3 plain seltzer with 1/3 cranberry juice and a fresh lime in a pretty glass at cocktail time. Or 1/3 OJ, 1/3 cran and 1/3 seltzer tastes like a madras. I drink alot if seltzer so we make our own with soda stream.

I used to like the flavored seltzers, but for some reason they now mostly taste overly sweet and cloying to me. They are too soda-like and meh. In any event, they would never be a substitute for a glass of wine for me. If I am going to have a mocktail, I like a bit of complexity in the glass.

We have been experimenting with the no-alcohol spirits, and that has been fun. Some are awful, but we have also found a few we like. IMO, they all need to be mixed with something, but it can be a low calorie something. My favorite is Pentire Adrift (no calories) with a splash of fever tree light tonic and lime. No one would mistake it for a gin and tonic, but it's pretty good. I have also made some pretty good fake margaritas with Ritual tequila alternative-- and I get to use my cocktail shaker so it's festive!

We have tried all the La Croix flavors. I like Key Lime, but haven't bought it in a few years. My husband calls it La Crap. Clearly he didn't find one he liked. I do enjoy the FeverTree Pink Grapefruit, which is sold in a case at Costco this time of year. I also like San Pellegrino or lime Topo Chico.

@sas95 I agree! it's so hard to find a good mocktail recipe, they're all just so sweet. and NA beer / wine is so disappointing. I decided that adding lemon or lime to plain soda water is better than any of that. some people like to add bitters, but I never found one that I like.

for your mocktails, have you ever tried fizzing your own seltzer? you can make it extra bubbly that way. I find that what mocktails are lacking is bite, so a stronger fizz somewhat makes up for it.

Ha - the belching is a fun bonus 😄

And @ sas - there are lots of unsweetened, flavored seltzers. IMO, the sweetened ones are basically diet soda without the color.

I find the more expensive bubbly waters to have a real sodium under flavor. Target has a great cheaper brand with flavors. I prefer lime so have quit trying others and stick to what's cheapest and lime. Always happy!! We find it a nice swap with dinner when not wanting a beer. DH doesn't brew as much as he once did.

@carolb_w_fl_coastal_9/10 I have only had the unsweetened flavored seltzers. I don't eat any processed sugar or sugar substitutes, so I think pretty much anything even a little sweet tasting tastes extremely sweet to me.

The other day I saw Target brand cucumber mint sparkling water. I thought, "Hey, I like cucumber and mint, the package is $3, I'm going to get it."

It was fine, a little weird. I was going to drink it but not buy it again. Then the product popped up on my app and I read a couple of the reviews. One said it tasted like toothpaste water and now I can't drink it anymore!

Currently drinking Aldi's brand plain lime, it's pretty good.

We buy San Pellegrino for home. I usually put a lime wedge but you can add fresh mint for a "no-jito." Of course, there's always Liquid Death sparkling waters that we get a concerts. There is a plain sparkling, but I like "berry it alive" which is a nice berry flavor.
