Hmmm........there are number of sources that indicate the opposite. The cones start out an intense purple blue but age to a pale greeny-tan when mature. But.......those don't exactly look like mature cones left over from last season. And some cultivars of Abies koreana - like Silberlocke - seem to do just the reverse, as Bill has described.

So I am officially confused :-))

I’d say koreana. Their cone colors can vary.

Thank you all. Bill- that article with its succession of the pictures of the cones was a brilliant one. I now have a good reason to keep a vigil on the cones. I will be waiting with excitement to see if the cones do indeed change color to the purple ones.. Thank you
