a1an, do you use any fertilizer?

Some pines can have a second flush if there's alot of rain and/or fertilizer. My loblolly pine has second flushes in wet summers, tho I'm not sure I've ever noticed that in "white" pines..

No fertz. Going back to OP. I was originally seeing 5 little nubs so I presumed it was just early budset for next year. Then as week progressed, it kept on emerging and emerging....so here I am think Single Pine Flush, what da, is this a second set of candles that is coming out.

We're in our second heat wave and it has shown as face.....as it was not candles but just needles.. I have been giving it supplemental watering on both heat waves so maybe that triggered it . I did look at every other branch or the majority on all my JWP and while a good amount of branches do appear to show a semi developed bud for next year, nothing like these new needles being discussed.

Most lilkely, the stellar care you're giving the tree(s) has caused them to take advantage of the season and push out a few more needles.

imo: I'd back off on watering and let them finish/harden off for the rest of the season.

The roots will continue to grow long after top growth has slowed.

Don't let them get too dry either. ;-)

I really LOVE the spring Color of Ogon but it's pretty much all green now

Would be interesting to see what color the new needles are but I suppose it's the temp that has pushed them towards the green side

Yes, you've been just too nice to your tree and it didn't know what else to do with all that extra energy. Therefore new growth late in the season. ;-)

I've had Japanese White Pine sprout a second time in my former garden. I may be mis-remembering but I think a lot of cones later initiated on these second growth shoots. And yes, for me they were shoots, not just needles.

I'm not going to calling it buds or needles as on one of the JWP discussed in this thread, at least 75% of this years growth, I'm seeing buds or something to that effect again....

I was wrong in the OP, in that it was just new needles. However, without checking every branch but just a quick visual, I am see -new things- on the terminal tips this time of the year.

Ha, I'm mainly checking 1 particular tree which had it's main leader tipped....nibbled off last year. No new candles this year and no signs of buds or the like on the tip so far. Wishful thinking....

Generally speaking, if a tree doesn't get any new growth at all, that's not good.

My pines have all finished growing on top for the season now.

There are differences in winter buds.

No new growth this season. It still has it's needles from 2 years ago so just hoping it's pulling sun, synthesizing

I really don't want to start a new leader.........I did check the tips of this tree and no new budsets showing on anything. My hope if that once I see budset on this tree, if there is buds, they will show on the tipped leader. Then again, I was hoping for buds last year which I never got.

I do have a backup in mind already, which is get s a same cutivar replacement if I don't see buds. Granted gardening has taught us all a world of patiences, but this cultivar is so slow growing, I'd rather gain 2-3 years rather than trying to reshape a limb and establish a new leader.
