Creative end table ideas

last modified: 3 years ago

Hello! My wife and I are struggling to find the perfect end table for our new swivel chairs. Reaching out to see if any creative minds can solve our puzzle. Our home has a lot of black / gray and white with a modern layout. Thanks in advance for the help!

Do they get swiveled much? My swivel chairs will knock any table that is close enough to be useful. Maybe something dainty in lightweight metal that can be moved if needed?

thank you! additonal photo attached. They aren’t swiveled often however my 1 year old son does enjoy the swivel feature haha

Thanks. Love your FP. Maybe something like this:

    OR this:

Make sure whatever you use is heavy enough that your toddler won't be able knock it over

With a child that young and already enjoying swiveling those chairs, it's going to get even t tricker as he gets older and more adept. So I want to ask you why you want the end tables. As a place to put your coffee or wine? As a place for lamps or decorative items? As a way to fill what feels like empty space? What is or are your speciic reasons for wanting them? Perhaps we can figure out how to accommodate those reasons without worrying about his knocking over any table you put there. (Because he will.)

very valid points! our guests have been using the window sill as a place to keep their beverages as they enjoy the swivel chairs. This has resulted in us wanting something sturdy / heavy to both compliment the space but also serve a purpose (keeping drinks off the sills :) ). thanks again everyone!!

Michael, don't purchase any piece of furniture, that when you accidently walk into it, it moves! not you. Just a rule that never fails me.

A drink table can work but it must be bottom heavy. I think you need to pull your sofa away from fireplace wall to give swivel chair on right more breathing room. Along these lines. Heavy is best.

could we see a few other photos of your beautiful room.

There may be a better location for your chairs. How does this room relate/access to adjoining rooms in your home.

I’m wondering the same as @Christoper - is there a better location for the swivels? The way they’re placed now, 2 tables needed - 1 for each chair. From the bit we see of the room, it looks like adding 2 tables will clutter up space. My thought is the swivels will have more impact placed as a pair with 1 smallish round table between them. It looks like there’s space at left side of rug to place the 2 swivels & a table. You don’t say what stage you’re at with this space but it looks like a new home & working on adding pieces as you figure things out? The space to right of FP looks like a good spot for large tree - add some warmth. Art on wall behind sectional, window treatments…..

Just get a couple of Martini tables, they are small and moveable. Put them in the corner when you toddler is out playing and pull them out next to the chairs when you have guests and they need a spot for their drink. It doesn't have to be complicated!

With a swiveling toddler and adults that need a place for a beverage, I would look for some small round cocktail sized side tables that can be placed a little bit away from the swivel chairs so that your toddler doesn't knock it over.

I've seen designers use plant stands/short architectural salvage columns, the sky's the limit Use what works As shown above there are a myriad of choices for small places being sold in furniture stores.

I might suggest endtables that have a more organic feel since your other furnishings are rectilinear.

We have a heavy wooden stool. Before this, we had a Saarinen style end table that got knocked over all the time. A petrified wood stump wouldn’t move and would add an organic texture.
