I say try it. It’s not a huge area and would be easy to fix if you decide it doesn’t work.

You did a great job arranging the mirrors, they look wonderful.

The space could use some fine-tuning A bit too much clutter that doesn't really make a design statement.

The poppies rug on top of the too-small jute rug is not working. The placement of the accent rug could be more creative.

I've moved and eliminated some of the stuff in the room. Placed the table lamp next to the chair instead of randomly placed next to an ottoman. IMO there is a better method for installing the TV screen. Appears to be too high

I think a dark, cool gray will clash with your fireplace. Either go with a dark taupe, or pick up one of the orange colors from your rug and match that.

I agree with Friday (who is an accomplished artist and has a great eye for design) and hope you don’t take the advice to remove charm, character, and personality from your room.

I would pick a rouge color from the area rug; it is dynamite and totally unexpected......go bold or go home.

Jilly is correct. Your 'clutter' is the charm and character. All too often people post here and are given suggestions that result in the same generic space. Your space looks very interesting and inviting. I love the wall of mirrors. It reminds me of this room that I have long admired with it's wall of masks.

For a deep accent wall color, the Peppercorn doesn’t seem to relate to your current room colors, which are deep browns, tan, orangey reds, greens— warmer and more earthy.

So would think a big more about what you hope to achieve and whether Peppercorn came up just because you’ve used it- in bath with silver accents it seems. Are you wanting to move in charcoal direction or did you have more of a kernel of idea for more drama but want to keep your existing palette.

I’m not saying dark charcoal can’t be used with warm colors also, but there should be some types of connection and repetition which I don’t see here right now.

I’d consider painting behind the couch instead, creating a true focal wall. The location and narrowness of the other wall might feel awkward. Be sure to add updated cushions to tie things together.

These are covers so not expensive and I think would look great with your room’s style.

I agree with those that are saying a color from your rug for an accent walls. I love the room. It has interest and isnt boring, like so many rooms, on this forum. I agree with Jilly, about, Ilikefriday. Her house is beautiful, and interesting, and very bold.

You all are so kind. Thank you @cat_ky. I appreciate the comments from both you and @Jilly. I get lots of help from both of you when I post. It takes people looking from multiple angles, and at different things to make a great space. It's hard for one person to notice everything.

Please do not randomly angle the colorful rug. Most of the time it just looks odd.

I don't think you need to add any new paint colors. Your pillows look a bit sad and droopy, so new inserts or pillows would look great.

I agree — I wouldn’t angle the rug in this room. It’s nicely balanced as is. I like how you’ve layered these rugs.

I agree with @chispa and @Jilly. The orientation of your rug is perfect as is.

Thanks all for the insightful comments - I agree the grey is a bit of a clash …I just used grey on the exterior , and in the bathroom; and had this idea that perhaps it will have a nice contrast to the gold on the wall

What is behind the sofa? Is that a piece of art on the wall? Does it have shades of grey in the background?

No grey behind the sofa . The walls are indeed white. The mirrors on the small wall have gold rims , which I thought would make a nice contrast to charcoal

Seeing that last pic, I think I’d just leave it as is. The mirrors are a nice design statement.

I agree a million percent that it’s charming and personal and lived-in, not cluttered. I find it really welcoming as is.

It’s actually some sort of woven chair - looks like rattan though … I was trying to find a chair for this space , and I was walking my dog & saw one of my neighbors had put it out as free !

Maybe you like grey, but I'd love the accent wall in the orang-pink of the pillow, rug, and thing by the fireplace. I just don't like battleship grey, but if you do, go for it!
