I was going to suggest Miss America but mine starts off as the palest pink before turning pure white. I am not any sort of paeony aficionado.

rp Miss America is lovely, it reminds me of a beefed up Krinkled White. I just may have to keep that one in mind for the future.

gdinie Immaculee looks like a very good possibility! The only thing throwing me off is the one reddish edge visible on the 3rd pic in the comments.

Yes, if you come across it - get it. It is by far the most successful, amenable paeony I have (and certainly the most reliable bloomer as I have a fractious relationship with the herbaceous paeonies). I just wanted to mention it, I guess. more than seeing it as a potential ID.

Peren.all, did you order this peony from a nursery, or was it a pass-along? If it was from an online nursery, I've found that with roses, especially, that quite often you can ID a mis-labled plant by checking the nursery's alphabetical listing for plants on either side of the plant you wanted. Sometimes adjacent plants get jumbled, carelessly picked up, or labels switched in the chaos that a shipping warehouse/greenhouse can be. For your peony the "F" alphabetical listings might go Felix Crousse - Festiva Maxima - Field Marshall. In my example it obviously doesn't pan out, because those peonies are red-white-red. But those are just what came to mind from my garden. For a particular nursery though, sometimes you get lucky.

By the way, if you successfully ID this one, be sure to let us know. Whatever it is, I want one, lol. It's a beauty, and early singles do best for me.

Peren.all, those pictures are not from this year surely? My earliest ones, P. mollis and a tenuifolia hybrid, have big buds, especially mollis, but they certainly are not blooming yet. And you are well north of me, if I remember correctly. Do you know P. mollis? It is my earliest one usually, the young foliage has a beautiful colour, and the flower has gorgeous veins throughout the petals.

fig_insanity I did purchase it from a reputable online nursery that I get the catalog for every year. Some time had passed (years) before I realized it was not FM. I went back through the catalogs I had but to no avail. Hopefully we will both get an answer here because it really is a lovely one. I think gdinie is close if not correct. I hope to get confirmation of that here. If not I will definitely update for you!

gdinie oooh that P. mollis is very attractive, I did not know of it. I will keep my eye open for that one too. I am much farther north than you, Approx. 45 miles SW of Ottawa. The one I posted about blooms toward the end of June here. The earliest bloomer for me is a P. tenuifolia hybrid called 'Early Scout' that blooms near the end of May. It is a gorgeous red. You & rp are adding to my wish list lol!

O, I am well up for some enabling to come my way too. Possibly because I am getting older, that I want to buy some plants which are garden ready. One of my species paeonies has a single flower bud (the first) this year: no denying the thrill of waiting years for this moment, but I also want to be able to make a plan and see it through...which never really happens when you spend years growing from seed.

I used to do it all the time for my customers: really easy to spend someone else's money ordering 3, 5 or 7 of a single species (I never do this for myself)...or planting an entire bed or border. I always intended to make a coherent garden on the allotment (after 20 years of messing around) but I don't think I can realistically do this without splashing some £££ instead of waiting years. Now, if I can get my head round using my camera phone, I will be hoping for some great ideas to come my way.

I think enabling and being enabled are a huge part of why we are all here. That is so exciting having the first bud. I am hoping to get one on Bartzella this year but if not then the next. Growing from seed gives us patience and we need it especially when we have those inevitable heartbreaks that come with it. I have had trays ravaged by rodents, upended by wind.... It is difficult for those of us who are frugal and of limited means to spend on plants that will give us nearly instant gratification but we do need to splurge on ourselves every now and again! You underestimate yourself because the couple of times you have posted pics they have been very impressive. You can master your phone. My DD helps me with technology and I know your kids will too. I want to see that Peony flower!
