Everything in a room, from wall paint, to flooring, to lighting must be taken into account when choosing a new element. Please raise the shades, step back, and take photos of the entire kitchen, including the floor in natural and artifical light. The cabinet color on my screen is almost a pink-white. The standard advice is to match wall paint and backsplash with the lightest background color of countertops. Yours seem to have a creamy background.

Huh. I think the backsplash works well with your current counters and cabinets. I wouldn't spend the money on changing it if the cabinets and counters remain the same.

I think that tile pattern should have been rotated 90 degrees, but otherwise it all looks fine in the photos.

Since capturing the gray from the countertops didn't work, consider complementing the white of the cabinets.

18 x 18 tile is often overlooked for backsplash material but IMO it has possibilities.

Color is wrong. And too busy

More "neutral and not so busy" (than your current gray arabesque with contrasting grout) will likely be a basic tile shape in one color that matches one of the lighter colors in your counters with a closely matched grout. Visit a quality tile store in your area and bring tile samples home to look at in good lighting to see how they blend with your counters, cabinets and flooring.

I was dissatisfied with my kitchen backsplash almost immediately after it was installed. I had the contractor paint over it, using the same shade of paint as the kitchen and dining room walls. It worked perfectly, and it was far more affordable than purchasing another backsplash tile and having it installed. In your case, I would suggest painting your backsplash the same colour as your cabinets.

Agree the color looks wrong and pattern too busy. You have pattern in the counters so I wouldn’t add more. As housegal posted, pick the lightest color in the counters that also works with the cabinets for a simple backsplash.

Is the color of the lower cabinets in your second pic a good representation? A creamy white? If so, pulling that shade from the counters should work.

Id faster change the countertops. It will be hard to do a white/cream backsplash when it’s up against the white cabinets…

The backsplash looks fine…I think it fights with the countertops being so busy…

Is the entire ceiling painted the color that shows over the sink? Looks too dark. If ripping out the backsplash consider just painting the wall a soft color that blends cabinets with countertops.

I hate it too. Go to a dedicated tile store, and bring home very simple soft whites. Stand them up.

The decision to have only a backsplash change means you work with the granite you have. Make sure you love the granite.

Bottom line is you can not force GRAY into every single kitchen or room. Someone has done that here, evidence the walls

A soft white on the cabinetry and walls, with a similar white on the backsplash? Nobody would be complaining.

The counter is WARM. You can't jam very cool elements in, and expect to love it. Never works, and looks forced. Contrasting grout? It makes any tile "busier" so that has to be the intent, or do not contrast.

It is ALSO why you once saw so much tumbled marble with that particular granite......: )

I actually like the back splash and hate the counters. I'd get a new counter.
