Need to modify cabinets to have built in microwave, NEED Design ADVICE

Hi all! So you can see from the image the current cabinets are set up so there is a little shelf for a tiny microwave. I am in debate mode on what to do because I'd like a larger Microwave but the current setup only allows for a 12" depth Microwave to be placed there. I do like the built in look microwaves and was hoping to get some advice on how I might approach that. Is it a bit crazy. I do have under lights on the cabinet which I can get rid of.

Just wondering on how you might approach this area. Leave it alone? Or cut out the bottom and do a built in Microwave. Any advice is much appreciated!!

It's possible that if you have nothing BEHIND that wall - you COULD rip out the back of the cabinet and eat into the wall studs., etc. In our prior house - we opened a wall and pushed the micro back but then it encroached into a cost closet. It was no big deal because the coat closet the pretty deep and you never noticed it. But you defintiely need more depth than you have there and if you can't build out / forward - there's only one direction left!

You can hang the GE PEM31 countertop microwave using the GE JXA019K undercabinet mounting kit from a 12" deep (or even shallower) shelf. However you should compare the sizes of the turntables of your current oven and this replacement. If the turntable is no larger, there's no reason to make the switch.
