With so many options, I agree, try and pick a less patterned rug. The circles and the Swirls seem to fight each other.

I think it can work, as the scale is different. The key is to pull in other elements that have diamond shapes and round shapes.

It depends on how much you love the rug. It would make a really nice statement.

On the other hand, keep in mind that it will define you future choices. Nothing wrong with that. Just something to know.

Love the rug - but not with that chair - there’s nothing about the chair’s color, pattern or style that relates to the rug. If you must keep the chair with that fabric, find a rug that picks up the chair color and style.

People have differing tolerance for pattern mixing. If your gut is saying no--you maybe should go with it??? I would find it too much for a living room, maybe a family room. It gives off a very casual vibe.

Either a different chair, or a different rug. I lean to the second idea, as to me? The rug looks quite cheap.........carved as 1980 : )

Better yet? Show the room and what else, besides the sectional and chair, you are planning.

Post some inspos of a room you love. Are you trying to pull in teal/turquoise ( I see the current rug ? )

Save that color for accent.....other than in the rug. If it is on the walls? Try pillows with both colors.

Guessing from the sneaker in the photo you own the chair. I think you can do better on a rug choice.

Take the loose pillow on the chair with you when you go back to look for a better rug. When you see the two together it should be evident what colors play nicely. With that chair I’d suggest a rug with stripes or an overall smaller scale pattern. A large color block rug might work - but I’d also avoid the sculpted look.

I say if you LOVE the rug, move the chair out of the room and restyle the room to go with the rug.

An easier way to add interest is with a less prominent rug and well chosen accessories. Bring the chair’s cushion if shopping in person and rug should also include some brown to better work with chair.

Select cushions for couch that help pull everything together as considering the entire room is important.

If you have to ask, then you already know the answer is NO!

Love the rug get a new chair

I’m all for mixing patterns, and stepping outside the box, but in this case the shapes are quite similar and the repeat could be pretty busy.

Is the rug at a local store? If so, maybe they’d let you try it at home.

We’d really need to see your room, the sofa, other furniture, adjoining rooms, etc for more context. Are there other rugs nearby? Curtains? There’s more involved than just the rug and chair.

It looks like you could use this rug with the chair and gray sofa. Pattern scale and colors seem to work, at least on my monitor. Remove the pillow on the chair...enough is enough. New pillows on the sofa, art on the wall. Keep the dark fabric in mind. Gray sofa will go with just about anything.

I think the rug issue for me is the sculpting and furrows. So it’s not just a bold “ pattern”.

I would find that too limiting and troublesome - furniture feet might not go in right parts of the sculpting, and vacuuming might not get stuff trapped in the grooves.
