Reminds me of rain lilies - Zephyranthes

I suppose it could be Iris versicolor or other such similar sp.

I doubt that it is Iris versicolor. That plant is almost always found in standing water, or at the very least, very wet and muddy soil. The location that it is growing in is quite high and dry. It can be found in this park, but in another low, marshy, wet area about a half mile away.

Some of the traits of Zephyranthes seem to make sense for this specimen.

Even though it's a temperate and tropical plant iNaturalist does show a few scattered records in the north with 1 even in Kalamazoo, MI.

It does not appear to be native to MI and it is quite conspicuous as being only found in 1 small clump in this park, so how it got here is anyone's guess.

Some species of the genus are also said to require very specific growing conditions in order to flower, such as periods of drought then rain, or may only bloom a few days after a heavy rain (hence the name, rain lilies), some even only bloom at night.

Then there is this from Wikipedia: "Foliage in the wild is often ephemeral,".

I don't visit this park regularly so it seems like the odds of catching it in bloom are quite remote - but I will keep looking - I might get lucky. Thanks carolb_w_fl_coastal_9b for the feedback.

The texture should tell you if it's a grass. Bulbous type plants feel different. Can you feel around and see what the root is like?
