Is this mirror hung too high?

I just hung this mirror above my dining room table. is it too high? The mirror and all the other hanging pictures in room are even height. What are rules for hanging mirrors. Thanks

Yes too high showing light fixture

The rule of thumb is to hang art and mirrors at eye level. This is roughly defined as the middle of the piece 60" from the floor. However, the size of the item can come into play so there is some wiggle room, and this is also relative to the height of an average person. Here are some pictures of how other people have displayed art in their dining rooms:

    • The table should be placed under the ceiling fixture
    • No need for a floor lamp when you already have enough light to perform surgery in this room
    • Mirror should be centered on ceiling fixture and table. IMO the mirror is too small for the space.
    • Not sure mirror was the correct solution when we don't know what will be placed on the righthand wall.
    • Not sure the silver finish for the mirror was the right call since it blends into the gray-painted wall. Black frame might have been better

eye level when standing, but seated in a dining room... too many faux flowers, either remove or put them all in the same vase. Green plant better suited down lower, unless it cascades over the shelf. No need for floor lamp in dining room.

The rug seems too casual for dining room.

Can you spin the table the long way? looks better suited for that direction.

everything needs to be centered on the light fixture, Rug, table, mirror

Do you have a taller/longer Buffet Table, sideboard? fill the space and make it the focal point.

do you need that shelf unit? Better to find a new room for it and the floor lamp.

small framed pictures should be grouped together. in a private space, not for public to see.

Your like fixture is too high as well. I think I would put the mirror elsewhere.

Agree with everything that Lyn said. It's a pretty space and I think art, maybe a black and white, would be better than the mirror. I would also paint the vent the wall color so it blends in.

Yes, it's too high, but hung lower it will just give diners a view of themselves and no one really likes watching themselves eat, or seeing the other diners not only in person but also reflected in a mirror. A large painting, as others have suggested (hung lower than the mirror) would add a lot to your room. Hopefully, you have another place to use the mirror. It would be perfect by the entry door so people can give themselves a last look as they leave the house.

Consider relocating the tower light and move the photo stand to that corner but place on an angle (not square to wall). Then maybe table can be rotated. Mirror looks okay but might look better with table rotated.

"The mirror and all the other hanging pictures in room are even height."

Why, and what does that mean? Show the whole of your space....all beyond and living. The table looks rather jammed in.

No to the mirror, no need to reflect a kitchen mess, even when hung lower.

High or low, there is not going to be a good reflection. Everything is skewed, too, and suggest no rug. Looks crowded. How about art on the wall?

The typical rule is to hang artwork and mirrors at eye level. Below you will find some of our dining room images from clients designs to aid you more with your dilemma.
