It is really more of a porch than a deck since it is at your front door. I would definitely do white railings.

Yes, I would call it a porch too. It’s very small, just a glorified stoop actually. Personally I would extend it all the way into the left corner to make it a worthwhile size. Though I can see that would cover some of your nice new concrete.

If you must have railings, I’d make them white.

There is a garage door to the left, so we can't extend that far.

I would as its really not necessary. maybe do a detail like we have on our front porch to define the edges

Sure here is ours. we also have dimmable led lights under the rail

below is a picture just after we finished building showing the lights

Just be thinking about whether you still need a handrail. There would be people, or times, someone could not do the steps w/o a rail.

I know. My husband is legally blind, so that has been a concern.
