Iris japonica and Geranium phaeum

I did some follow-up based on your suggestions, and suspect the Iris is Iris confusa, the Bamboo Iris.

I grow Iris confusa myself and it is much taller than I. japonica (which I have also grown but not in m current garden), upto a meter or so in height. Japonica has a more groundcover-like habit, which your photo seems to indicate.

IMO, still not nearly tall enough to be I. confusa. Stems of confusa are skinny and quite widely jointed, which leads to the common name of bamboo iris. To my eyes these look nothing like a dracaena.

Sorry. I agree the plants look nothing like a Dracaena. I just used Dracaena to describe the skinny ,jointed stems that the fans were on. I have highlighted this in the image.

The fans were definately not sitting at ground level, but a good 2' or so above.

At 2 feet, that IS too tall for I. japonica. It was very difficult from your photo to judge an accurate height.

The form of plant #1 reminds me a bit of my blackberry lilies (Belamcanda chinensis), but the flowers more resemble my walking iris - might it be iris confusa?

Depending on the size of the plant in question (now confirmed), it was always either Iris confusa or japonica.

When I first sighted the plant, I thought Iris, based on the flower, .

Once I got up close to it, and saw that the fans were sitting on jointed stems, I started to have doubts.

I didn't, I admit, give a size because I assumed that the stems would be a definative characteristic. Maybe I shouldn't have described them as Dracaena type stems, but, to me, they looked more like some Dracaenas I have seen, than anything else I could think of.

One day I will get it through my thick skull - ASSUME NOTHING!!!! :-)))))))

Those Victorian water towers are so beautiful. Ours are big round discs atop metal framework, strictly utilitarian. I hope you see her let down her hair on another visit.
