If your plant does not have opposite leaf arrangement it's not an ash.

Yes - I can see opposite leaf arrangement on this sprout, but I am not sure that guarantees it's an Ash. That's what I am looking for - confirmation that's it's an Ash.

We had a white ash tree taken down a year ago. That looks like a seedling to me. There is a substantial seedbank in the soil here so I’m always watching for seedlings because they root deeply quickly and can be difficult to remove. The earlier you can find them, the easier they are to remove! I’m not sure how long the seedbank lasts…I hopeit’s not long!

That sprout has alternate leaves imo, not opposite.

Compare to Carya, the hickories.
