Are these both Liberty Hosta?

I purchased these online from two different nurseries.

this first one was from Naylor Creek, so I have more confidence it was labeled correctly.

I can't recall the name of where I got this one.

similar shape, slight coloring difference and the Naylor Liberty has more puckering and is taller.

I'm not concerned, just curious if there is generally this much difference in one named variety.

Another agreement here. Mine are not round at all. They look like the ones littlebug posted. It is possible that the one from Naylor was a mistake. After Jack died, Gary tried to keep the nursery going, but it wasn't easy and I suspect his helpers may not have been as knowledgeable as he. I never received one order after Jack died and Gary was really struggling at the end. It was a sad day for all of us hosta lovers and Naylor Creek lovers when he died. I still miss "the boyz".

I have had lots of Liberties but none had round/heart shaped leaves like yours. Mine have much more elongated leaves. Ignore the hail damage 😟

Actually I‘m not sure yours are Liberties.

I agree, neither looks like Liberty, though the second one is closer than the first. Liberty is my favourite hosta, worth seeking a true one, I think.

Both posted pics are quite different than mine and quite different from each other.

I see some that look like mine and others are all over the board. Maybe the labeling in the industry is sketchy or there is a range of variation within a cultivar.

I agree with the others, not sure what yours are…… but Liberty comes early in my 5b zone and it comes up with lovely yellow edge that will whiten over the summer.

Notice tips

I don’t think there’s a labeling problem per se well known vendors. I never ordered from Naylors. They went out of business before I could. They were well respected among forum members.

In looking at both, the one in the second photo, the leaves are a bit pointier. They are both young plants and possibly with maturity will look more like some of those posted.

The one from Naylor Creek was my only order from them. It was just a few months before Gary passed. Very sad indeed. After receiving the order I'd emailed him asking if it was possible to visit the nursery. I have a very nice note he wrote that I'm not sure I should post. He sounded harried and overworked, but very nicely explained how he and his one helper were trying to cope with over 800 orders and couldn't keep up the gardens and weren't accepting visitors. signed -

Naylor Creek Nursery

I'd never met either of them and feel I missed some very good people. Whether it's a true Liberty or not it has a place in my garden and is brighter for it.
