Help with Bedroom

I’m getting this bed in a king and moving our bed (which matches the existing armoire and dresser) in our adult daughter’s room as a second guest bedroom. The new bed will have a creme colored leather headboard (not the caramel pictured) and a painted black wood surround. I want to move my husband’s night stand in the other room too and get a new night stand. I am keeping the dresser and armoire. So, I need to replace his night stand. Have thought of a creme colored wood to match the new headboard or black (seems too heavy) to tie in with the pedestal on my night stand. I will replace the lamps with matching lamps. A couple more pics to follow. What color would you do for a new nightstand?

    SW Alabaster @flo mangan

And we went to the Ann Arbor art fair in July and bought a photo from a guy we’ve purchased from in the past. This is a new image for him and we are the first to buy it. He didn’t even have one printed for his booth so we bought it from only seeing it on his phone. It will be arriving to us Friday. I don’t purchase art to match my furniture but I do think this will be perfect over the creme headboard. The breed of horse is called Camargue from that region in France. He took this as the horses were running toward him and kicking up dust. Since I love art, I’m more excited for the photo than probably anything else!

Love the horse art. So pretty and kind of ethereal with the dust “filtering” the shot! Awesome. As to wall color, I think SW Alabaster looks best with headboard leather. It seems to keep it neutral rather than making it look too yellow. Check in your light what you think. Put the key is “what does it do to the color of the leather”? That needs to be a nice match or combo. Lamp and other elements will work since they are further away from the headboard. All off white tones with your gold details. Very pretty.

    LOVE the photo!

    AWESOME photography!!

I agree Flo. I think the Alabaster goes the best with the leather. The light wasn’t the best in the room this afternoon. It was clouding up a bit outside. Will look again tomorrow. Glad you love the photo. I liked it immediately when he showed me.

Thanks Kelly. I love the photo too!

I will probably do white sheets I think? and possibly a coverlet from this company below. I am not a comforter or duvet person. Have had both and they look nice but I don’t want to dry clean a comforter or stuff a duvet into a duvet cover. Have I mentioned I don’t like to make my life difficult? Ha!

Another thing occurs to me. I wonder if I should not rehang this valance. I know they’re “out”. It’s the only valance I have left and I still kind of like it. I’ll take it down and valances will become a thing again. Lol

Great. I like this coverlet fabric the best. Texture is a plus. I like the coverlet too. Much easier for daily bed making. Plus with your bed super clean look. As to the jabot, bye bye! Lol

I like that one too. Should probably have my head examined for getting something like this with the cats. I will wait til the bed is here. I’ve noticed the dimensions of the coverlets from the various manufacturers seem to not be standard so I want to be able to return if necessary.
Ok will say bye to the valance. Could consider drapes but…cats.

Yes, watch those dimensions. I am convinced whomever is posting dimensions on any website has no clue on measuring and properly notating them!

Yep I agree with that! Just got a letter in the mail from the furniture store. The bed was due in on Sept. 30 and now it’s Oct. 30! Sheesh! Guess there’s no push to paint right away. The nightstands are being delivered to us in two weeks so that’s good I guess.

That is disappointing. Hope they meet that date. Maybe it will come sooner!!

This delivery problem persists throughout the industry, and it is driving us mad! I am postponing ordering a sofa for us, simply because of the delivery uncertainty. They want your money up front, with no promise of delivery end point. I don't think so. Not going there. Unless I can't find anything locally. Still looking!

Yes it is frustrating. Hopefully you can find a sofa closer to home. We only had to pay a 1/3 deposit for the bed so it’s not so bad. On another note, we are going to have to redo our girls’ bathroom. We weren’t planning to do it this year but had a big problem in the their shower so a plumber had to cap off the lines in the wall. (Ergo the hole you can see above the backsplash.) This room hasn’t been touched since we built the house. We’d like to do this before Thanksgiving because the shower is not useable now. I don’t even know where to start. Will get new countertop (probably granite), new flooring, and my husband will paint the cabinets (grain will show through but that’s ok) or have our cabinet guy give us a quote for new drawer and door fronts. That’ll probably be more than what I want to spend for a room that doesn’t get used much. I will take down the wallpaper. I still love it, I’d pick it again. Have one roll left and can’t think of anything to do with it other than use it for wrapping paper which it’s probably a bit thick for. What do I pick first? Maybe the granite because it will be the most “patterned”? I don’t know what direction to go. @flo mangan

See my email reply. Cute bathroom and we can definitely fix this. Lumber work first but that might mean new valve in shower which means new fixtures so it isn’t too hard. Just getting materials we want biggest challenge. Talk to you soon!

Got the night stands a couple weeks ago and getting the bedroom walls painted this week. Yay! We will be flip flopping the furniture in the bedroom as you suggested. I’ll post pics when the walls are finished. Not quite sure where to place the armoire and dresser on the “new” wall.
Random but I’d like to get rid of the ceiling fan in my sunroom and replace it with this chandelier (or similar) pictured. The ceiling is height is close to 12’ and the room is approximately 13’ x 12”. What is the optimum size (width) for this room? Hope you see this Flo. @flo mangan.

Hi! Mary. Just saw your post. Can’t wait to see the room rearranged. I would put the armoire on current bed wall towards outside wall. That height then is muted when entering the room. If the dresser fits on that wall too that would be great. As to the chandelier, I love that look but seems to French for your modern look? Can you repost pictures of that room again. You need around 28” round or unique linear shape to mimic length of sofa maybe? It could be two tier too with that ceiling height. I am thinking black with maybe interesting baubles. I am thinking about your stylistic cat! Something fun. I will look around.

I can do some mock ups for you when you can post new photos facing into the room with ceiling in the picture. Even if you have to back way back.

Thanks happyleg. I know this has been in progress and I did the new space plan/layout for Cindy. Waiting on new headboard. The chandy is for the “sunroom” as I understand it. Could be wrong. Cindy please help. Thanks.

Yes you & everyone has a lot going on Flo. It's ok.

Hi Flo. Just saw this tonight. Had been checking but then kind of stopped. I ended up ordering this for the sunroom. It’s under transitional fixtures. I can send it back if I don’t like it. (If it hasn’t been hung by the electrician that is!) It’s 28” so apparently I figured this out correctly! Hubby wanted me to pick a fixture because we ordered two new fans (I hate fans lol) and he wants the electrician to only come once.
Painter was supposed come last week but didn’t show up and didn’t call. Hubby called him Friday and he said his mom had been sick and “I probably should have called”. (Ya think?) Supposedly he’s coming the 25th now.
So when you walk into my bedroom the dresser will be first and then the armoire toward the window. I figured it should be like that so as not to walk in and be looking around a big piece of furniture. (The armoire) They should both fit on that wall.

Is my sofa contemporary? I didn’t think so with its

I would call your sofa transitional since it has fairly straight lines plus your coffee table is straight lines too. I was hoping for a more unique fixture for your room. Guess you will have a more traditional look. It’s ok just kind of meh. But hey. It’s your room so we shall see. It’s open so we might need to get some shades to give it a bit more shajuzz.

  • PRO

Here is a little mock up showing some leopard chandelier shades on your new chandelier. Or you could do the white and blue shades to be more traditional.

I do like contemporary but the light fixtures you show are a bit too out there for me. The one with the tiered black shades is super cool (husband is not a fan) but I’m not sure I see it in my sort of “gardenish” sunroom. I like the animal print shades a lot!! Thanks for suggesting them. I will make sure the chandelier (has shipped) is to my liking before I order them. Have had shades in the past but never clip on shades. Hopefully they are easy to orient to not be crooked. I think I still like traditional decor with a bit of contemporary thrown in here and there.
Haven’t heard of bed being delayed again so it should be to the furniture store on the 30th.

I’m looking forward to the bed too! Right now we’re sleeping in one of our daughters’ rooms (moved our bed out) and I want to be back in my own bedroom. Thanks for the tip re the frosted bulbs.

Oh I forgot, should the bottom of the chandelier be approx 8’ from the floor?

    last modified: 2 years ago

8 or 9 ft. ceiling, 84 inches from the floor..

Sorry I think I didn’t understand the first part of that sentence. The ceiling is somewhere between 12’-13’ high.

I corrected it. My guess go between the bed & ceiling.

Oh sorry happyleg, the chandelier is actually for my sunroom. I know this is confusing because I’ve been talking about my bedroom and my sunroom!

  • PRO

Bottom of chandelier usually 7.5’ above floor unless very tall family. You have tall ceiling in the sunroom so I would eyeball it so it allows nice “views” through it to your art. So it depends.

Ok thanks got it Flo. My husband painted my younger daughter’s room SW Alabaster and he’s going to paint our older daughter’s room that color too. He just doesn’t want to tackle our bedroom due to the high ceilings. Anyway, here’s our old bed in her room and I placed one of our new lamps in there to see it with the paint color. I think the lamp looks a bit darker in real life.

If you read this Flo, I love that “bubble” chandelier I saw in someone else’s thread. It would be cool in my sunroom but dusting it would be too hard. I’d love the dupe, the smaller size for over my kitchen table but I assume it’s not right style wise. We have no idea when we’ll tackle the kitchen. It’s too daunting frankly. Probably won’t work? @flo mangan

Finally getting around to posting pics, enjoying how the room turned out. Still haven’t bought bedding and may not end up with a quilt, coverlet etc. because too much upkeep with cats and their fur. I would like to find possibly three Euroshams and maybe a lumbar pillow. Have made progress on guest bathroom with new counter, sink, flooring and mirror. My husband painted the cabinet. One of these days I’ll find wallpaper.

  • last year

Here are before and after photos of the bathroom. Still need to have someone put the baseboards back on and my husband had some trouble putting the bottom right drawer back on, he’s figuring it out.
